You pay for the hit's. Does anyone remember the Video music channel called "the box".The channel charged 2.00 a video. You wait an hour and see it.
Picture this a national network with local affiliates.Charging 99 cents a song.
You could access a playlist via the internet or cell phone or e-mail.The format would more than likly be a CHR with a handful of classics in the mix to pick from.No sales people just someone to make sure a computer is working properly on a local level and a phone bank somewhere to handle complaints or someone who wants to talk to a live operator with a charge of course.
The station would have no jocks or commercials. This could actually work.
What do you think?

Isn't this called an iPod?

This sounds like an awful lot of trouble just to hear a song. There are many sites where you can download for a charge including many radio station websites.

There's a cable network in Germany that runs something similar.

"VIVA Plus" is somewhat like what the Box was, it's now owned in part by Viacom. You call up a specific number (for $1 or something similar) to place a "vote" for a song. Votes are continually totalled on the right 1/5 of the screen, and when the song gets the most votes, it is played. After the video plays, the votes for the song are cleared and the next highest song's video is played. Once the votes for the song are back to #1, it plays again and the votes are cleared again.

The station ran this programming between 9a-9p. And if the revenue from the votes weren't enough, every four songs, the station would have a commercial break!

This was three years ago. Now, with $.99 cent song downloads, and video downloads available from iTunes, music video downloads can't be too far away.

i wouldn't do it. if i were going to pay i would either

a. buy the cd

b. pay for the download and burn a cd

Did anyone know that Viacom is owned by Summer Redstone who praticly owes anything these days He owns CBS Showcase Cinemas AKA National Amusements,BET TElevision paramount pictures, mtv vh1 I would not give this guy a nickel. I had a friend who met him once and he said he was the most rudest not friendly person he ever met. I bet watch what i say since everyone is sue happy these days over slander.
