A day in the life of a lamptimer

Noticed last week that for the first time in about a year, the Lumberyard, during their oldies music block, has brought back commercials! Actually, in particular, it's one commercial that's political in nature. The ad, being run by a super PAC backing Newt Gingrich called "Winning our Future", claims in the commercial that the people need to "take back the Republican party." They criticize the party for nominating Bob Dole, John McCain and in the ad they say, "Now they’re giving us Mitt Romney?" The ad then directs listeners to visit a website called "Time to Choose." It claims to not be endorsed by any candidate, but a cursory search shows that the super PAC supports Newt.

My question is this: is the Lumberyard trying to go politico on us here? After a year or so of not having a single commercial except for public service announcements, looks like the Lumberyard couldn't resist the big ad dollars coming from Newt. Unfortunately, just like Newt's chances in the race, the Lumberyard has few followers and his ad dollars probably could have been better spent on other stations. I'm not complaining, though, it's nice to see somebody, anybody throw ad dollars Gumpdusky's way for our beloved Lumberyard. Something has to pay for that nifty new Nautel transmitter, might as well be "cheerful" Newt! ;D

Yes indeedy, a whole new look and features on Lumberyard 14~Forty's web page: http://kazg1440.com/ Links to management...upcoming concerts by artists never featured on the station..sign up for their e-newsletter...music news of artists never featured on the station (hmmmm)...Kim 'n Don...Radio Khushi..upcoming contests..a gallery page, plus so much more! And not to be one-upped by that high school FM station, KAZG is now known as "Arizona's Golden Oldies" It'll be hard to keep Nurse Jeff focused on his many duties at the Buckeye Media Hut as Gumpdusky has given him yet another excuse to waste countless hours on the internet  Thanks a lot, goldminers!

Do I seriously see Nick Jonas and Justin Bieber on the front page of the KAZG website???

And what about my lovely video?! :D

I guess that's what happens when you use a RSS aggregator plugin for Wordpress.

Yes, and it should have a filter and keywords.

That requires someone at the station to care. Wait, did I say that out loud?

The goldminers two hour lunch break has just increased by another 30 minutes! Lumberyard 14~Forty has a new brokered program between 1 and 1:30pm hosted by Dr Gary Lawerence of the Flip A Foreclosure and Become Rich congregation ;D He also airs on 13~Sixty, but this is the first time his show has been featured on Scottsdale's one and only Ancient Modulation station*.

* so how come Apache Junction gets two of these dinosaurs?

Wow. Sad to see the Lumberyard going the way of actual management.

Well, there's always 'KCW over here, still airing its two commercials and ultra-long dead carrier breaks. I'd offer you up a listen, but without a functioning website, I'd have to fire up the Akai reel-to-reel then Pony Express you a few hours of the programming.

Have the Goldminers opened that shipment from Nova Scotia and plugged it in? Nurse Jeff and I've noticed a change in Lumberyard 14~Forty's mod level..less distortion..and more depth in the sound of those worn out oldies they play. Hmmmm...we better post a sign up sheet in the Media Hut lobby and get some volunteers to stay up all night to monitor the frequency. Could the days of the Valley's last daytimer be numbered?

The Lumberyard may have signed off on time (most likely sans ID), but the
KayFuNNsters were on something more that 100 w-N until 7:00 PM, at which time
they must have dropped to 100 w-N, as their signal disappeared in the 'Tuke.

I really doubt they went to their PSSA of 24 w at 6:30, since if I can't hear 100 w,
how can I hear 24?

After all these years, I guess it's still same ol' same ol'.

Wonder if the KFuNNsters are interested in Lumberyard 14~Forty's Lamptimer once KAZG goes full time? Obviously there's a Ball of Confusion (Temptations, 1970) over at KFuNN. They should be switching from day power (22kw) to night power (100w) at 6:30pm during the month of March. Fuhgeddaboudt the PSSA authorization as the Mighty 15~Ten is a fulltime station. Following all of this should be as easy as understanding a KDM7000 posting ::)

Sorry if this takes the thread off topic (!!!!!!) but I'm unclear - is a KDM7000 some sort of super doppler haboob detector?

52 Watts Saturday Night!!!!! :-X

Nurse Jeff and I'll be sure to point the Gremlin's antenna due east to catch 52 watts of music pow-pow-power coming from Lumberyard 14~Forty! Will it be like before when the old Harris was left on after sunset and it was non-stop worn out oldies with no jingles, sweepers or legal IDs? Seeing this is a historical moment in Lumberyard history, and it occurs on Saturday night...how 'bout a live broadcast with Luvable Jay from the canal bank! Afterwards we can all head down to the Big Apple and feed our fezes.

About 6:30:04 PM Saturday, the Lumberyard...stayed on! Cut back to 52 watts!

The only disappointment is there was no annoucement that KAZG would be
staying on the air at night.

That was a pretty close switch--maybe there is a new lamptimer.

What more can you tell us, catfish (with a "c")?

There is something very Kookie going on!!! ;)

Yes indeedy (to paraphrase Dr. Akbar).

From about 7:10(?)-7:40 PM it was an all-Kookie marathon! Little did we know he
did more than one song. Hey, we're album tracking (maybe) at the Lumberyard...!

So I go out of town for one weekend, and I miss out on this amazing event! I just got back into town and sure enough, the Goldmine is pumping out those golden oldies in all their mono glory.

Now I'm not ready to claim victory just yet with the all-night Lumberyard. Keep in mind, this is the time of year where every two years, for whatever strange reason, Sandusky keeps the 1440 transmitter on all night for one infamous weekend. If you look earlier in this thread, the same phenomena happened two years ago right after April Fools Day. The same thing also occurred four years ago back in 2008. I don't know why this happens every two years (to keep the night-time authorization?), but it's occurring yet again this year.

Also, like two years ago, the Lumberyard is playing those golden oldies back-to-back with no bumpers, commercials or legal ID's. The 1440 night-time oldies IPOD is fully operational! ;D

So I guess I have cautious optimism about this weekend's events. If this holds true tomorrow and through the week, then perhaps the new Nautel is installed and we're good to go for the all-night 24 hour Goldmine oldies machine. We shall see. Stay tuned KAZG listeners!
