I think the most appropriate song to play once the Lumberyard is back on-line churning out those golden oldies is "Kookie, Kookie - Lend Me Your Comb." It's a KAZG fan favorite since 2001! ;D

Now you got the Nurse and me thinkin'....what became of not only the retired lamptimer, but the old xmttr as well? Anyone notice oozing oil coming up from the Crosscut canal? Is the lamptimer being used for just that purpose now? And why does catfish use a lower case "c" in his name? There are many remaining mysteries lurking around Lumberyard 14~Forty.

Few know that the original KPOK / KDOT transmitter, which caught fire and smoked much of the Lumberyard transmitter building and support equipment in the mid-60's...probably lurks there too. The station's audio processor...a state of the art but toasted Collins 26W limiter amp...was recycled into several of Arizona's more notorious experimental and sub rosa radio projects later on. Worked like a charm...and what's a little transformer PCB (that's polychlorinated biphenyl to you science-minded whippersnappers) among friends? None of the audio enhancing shenanigans were likely to have been approved by Sam Pendleton or Fred Hervey.

The Nurse and I are beginning to worry about the health of the Goldminers...trapped under the Tower of Pow-Pow-Power along the Crosscut Canal since last Saturday. Has anyone put their ear to the ground and heard noises? Is Mrs Gumpdusky camping out in the back of her Olds 98 waiting their escape? Has catfish (lower case c) made certain The Buoys biggest hit is not programmed into the new automation? And even though this is Scottsdale, an appearance by Greg Stanton would certainly make the 10 o'clock news. What in the Wide, Wide World of Sports is a goin' on at Lumberyard 14~Forty ???

You should be justifiably proud. Ol' Art made the good stuff. The 26W, for instance, is still sought after these days by fancy recording studios for its pumpy, warm, Phat sound.

My idea of a fun night would involve one of Art's cute little 300J 250 watters tuned up somewhere around 160 meters paired with a R-390A for some exotic DX. I am told, this is a licensed activity.

I have heard these guys years ago on 160 m. I was using my 1936 Philco 116-X, re-worked with piezo tweeters to give 20 khz audio.
There were one or two who must have been CEs somewhere, as you could not just hear background noises,
but you could hear it was kids in the kitchen, dogs outside, and much further away, a train. Then, on top of of that was the huge voice.
You could almost hear the humidity in the air at their place.

The good doctor is part of a conspiracy, about what I do not know...I am armed with the Jack o Box coupons from the Sunday paper and will investigate the oldies station that is playing 80s music and Bollywood super K crap

...yes part and parcel Mr Good Doctor... I wonder if Jim Sharp knows about this. I bet he has sources but he can not reveal them, but he knows, and if he could tell people would be surprised, but he cannot tell because he is under deep cover.

As this stupid topic approaches 100k views, Nurse Jeff and I would like to thank the ownership of Cactus Radio for providing us plenty of material. If not for Lumberyard 14~Forty, we'd have a lot more time to go out and get a real job. Instead, we're like the Old Gringo..bordering on retirement and down right grumpy. He has mountain views of Prescott and we've got the Buckeye Media Hut.

So c'mon catfish (with a lower case c), fix the stupid automation and give us those worn out oldies in full Ancient Modulation fidelity. What's on the air right now sounds like an FM station that plays worn out classic rock.
 
I'm curious to see what happens when this thread hits 100,000 views! The column seems to be fit for only 5 digits, so will the good folks at radio-info.com be forced to have their webmaster resize that column?! Can't wait to see!

Guess the sequestration (or some other kind of - stration) came early to Lumberyard 14~Forty. We've been without worn out oldies on Ancient Modulation for over 10 days now. Nurse Jeff and I have this recurring dream about Gumpdusky keeping KAZG in simulcast with KSLX to save the cost of repairs to whatever it is that broke. Will the 14 In A Row Goldmine ever return?
