A day in the life of a lamptimer

I've seen this topic on the front page for a couple of years. I'm not trying to be a wiseguy, but just exactly what is a lamptimer?

Oh-Oh! This should be interesting..........

Art, buddy! You'll have to read through the whole thread to learn
about the infamous Lumberyard lamptimer and its perceived origin.

Or you could get Eric Holder to read it for you. :D

That would take at least two years based on his inability to read 10 pages in two weeks ::)

All politically incorrect humor aside...the Goldminers kick ass compared to the 12~Sixty Trailer Trashmen when it comes to variety, presentation, processing and jingles. Nothing like hearing a 14~Forty jingle into "Locomotion" by Little Eva! It's the all day Boss Bound sound comin' to ya from Lumberyard 14~Forty. Now if only we could get 'em to use that 52 watt nighttime authorization.

I tried that. After the first page I realized that I had no idea what you all were talking about. I'm a civilian. I only have a relative in radio. As for Eric Holder, I'm not a big fan of him or his boss. The only things that I would ask either of them for is their resignations.

Aren't you buds with the Sharpemeister? I'm sure he's familiar with the
lamptimer legend; it might even be a good topic for his early morning show
on 55/FYI--5-7, 5-7, 5-7. (NBO/Kim co-owned SFX: ooooooooh!)

Or...you can go to reply #181 on page 19 of this thread:

Don't forget Janet. She hasn't read it yet either. But "the system worked." ::)

hmmmm...sounds like you're about as experienced as Nurse Jeff and me when it comes to radio! You may want to consider KOOL Lauren's nifty web page devoted to the lunacy that is Lumberyard 14~Forty: http://www.phoenixairchecks.com/kazg/ And by all means, click to play the video. The rusted transformer and ivy hanging on the power pole says it all!

Those skilled goldminers!

Saturday morning the Nurse and I wuz groovin' to all those worn out oldies on Lumberyard 14~Forty when all of a sudden a half hour info-comercial ended our aural obsession. Instead of interrupting a blast from the past, the program began at the end of the song. And when the hawking of a emu oil based pain medication ended at the top of the hour, a snappy Kay A Zee Gee, Scottsdale-Feenix legal ID followed. Then it was back to more worn out oldies played 14 in a row.

Now that took planning and skill! Los Buckeye Boyz are full of hope that perhaps someday Gumpdusky goldminers can do a legal ID and sign off without cutting the carrier during a golden nugget. (of course using their nighttime authorization would solve that problem)

Lumberyard 14~Forty: where all our worn out oldies are played at the right speed! Do not accept anything slower, unless you live in Apache Junction :D

Sooooooooo, Oldiesfan....how'd our well behaved Goldminers do on the first day of their longest full pow-pow-power month? Did they nail it at 5:15am, or sign on using May's local sunrise? And btw...if you see Mrs Gumpdusky, tell her hands off the miners' nuggets  Neither Nurse Jeff or I approve of Sergio Mendes' version of "Going Out Of My Head". Little Anthony & The Imperials is the real deal. Tell her she can play Brazil 66 on her Oldsmobile 98's eight track player!

Q: When did Lumberyard 1440 sign-off on the first day of June?

A: Other than allowing for the drifting lamptimer (now over five minutes fast),
the same time as they did on the last day of May.

7:20:20 PM for those of you keeping score.

Q: Did they do a legal ID at sign-off?

A: Yeah sure. They always do. (Sarcasm mode on.)

Maybe Sandusky will get things right tomorrow on Wednesday June 2nd. The June sunset sign-off time is 7:30 P.M. Keep in mind, for the last few months, it has taken the Lumberyard a couple days to get things straight at the beginning of the month. June looks to be no different! ::)

Only out in A.J., or so it appears from the FCC AM Query.

June (and July) punch-out at the Lumberyard is 7:45 PM:

Ah, my mistake! This explains why when we were treated to 24 hour Goldmine oldies back in early April, the station ID's, bumpers and commercials ended after 7:45 P.M. (the latest KAZG signs-off all year). As other curious Lumberyard fans remember, after that time, it was non-stop Goldmine oldies until 5:15 A.M. when the bumpers and legal ID's magically reappeared! Further proof that the entire station, when playing those golden oldies, is run by a computer on auto pilot. :)

I suppose you could say Gumpdusky has fallen into a rut with KAZG 1440.

As has been their recent M.O., someone--again a day late--ventured out to the
Lumberyard after sign off last night and reset the lamptimer for June specs, as
this morning's abrupt, song-in-progress, don't do an ID, sign on was at 5:20:26.

Unfortunately while there, they forgot to recalibrate said lamptimer to something
closer to real time, since it remains adrift at over five minutes fast.

LPFM Stations like KWSS are limited to 100 feet height at 100 watts ERP by the FCC. Thanks to the NAB and many corporate broadcasters that lobbied the commission to restrict them so they don't steal listeners and revenue if you can imagine that. So that's what you get in the end.

Lumberyard 1440 alert...7:40 PM:

My Way. Sinatra. Playing on air. Mrs. Lumberyard is thrilled.

Now awaiting daily lamptimer drift. Guesstimating carrier dump at 7:52:11
(unless it has been reset since Wednesday night).

Do the KAZG Gumpduskys play Sinatra's "Call Me Irresponsible" ?

It would be perfect for the days when the pow-pow-power hits run a wee bit long.

That would be Jack Jones (a tip of the fez to Grandma Nurse Jeff for that one)...and the answer is no they don't.

It would be perfect for the days when the pow-pow-power hits run a wee bit long.

If only the Goldminers would snag Chairmen of the Board's "Give Me Just A Little More Time", but that might get on the turf of a former Oldies station known for playing a lot of 70's music!
