A day in the life of a lamptimer

ironbear said:
So how's the processing on the Lamptimer's HD signal? Back to mono™, distorted, weirdly phasey or glorious stereo?

Pssst...don't tell catfish, but some retro-thinking engineers have figured out the Wall of Sound. It's easily replicated using a RCA 77DX muffed with a couple of Phil's fright wigs and a pair of men's Jeggings®.

The Wall of Sound was achieved primarily by a lack of multiple microphones in the studio and dubbing over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over, etc. The same stuff repeated thousands of times....kinda like this topic!

Pictures of Matchstick Men by Status Quo as heard on Lumberyard 14~Forty over the weekend. YIKES!

And Nurse Jeff and I stumbled into a paid program Saturday morning from Little Dealer, Little Prices that interrupted those 14 in a row worn-out oldies. Does this mean Gumpdusky is finally getting serious about monetizing Scottsdale's only Ancient Modulation station?

Double YIKES!

yes and another show next month at 8AM

The show will let the weary gold miners sharpen their picks at least...
And the most honorable catfish (small c) can install new 6 penny nails on the Russco-Rumble-Matic tone-arms to continue the quest for high quality Ancient Modulation on the Lamp-timer's HOT FLAMIN' ROCK THROWIN' NAUTEL Rice Rocket

With a Nautel cranking out 52 watts of music po-po-power, there should be a Lumberyard Can-Con hourly quota. Bring on more Guess Who and another spin of the Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald...

memo to self: check Media Hut Accounts Payable to see if Nurse Jeff has sent any money to Gumpdusky or Cactus Radio lately. Also inquire what all those "Breakfast With The Nurse on 14~Forty" t-shirts are about.

I heard a "Canada Report" on 1440 at 12 noon before the food show, for about 5 minutes, they said the Canadians were going home for the summer. I think it was the last show.

So much for CanCon until the snowbirds return in the winter!

But What in the Wide, Wide World of Sports is a goin' on between 8 and 10am on Lumberyard 14~Forty??? Why none other than a refuge from NBC 12~Sixty (now Funny 12~Sixty), Golfsmith Radio http://www.golfazradio.com/ Nurse Jeff and I never pictured the Goldminers swinging a 9 iron, but a buck is a buck and now there are six fewer hours of worn-out oldies on Scottsdale's only Ancient Modulation station. hmmmm....wonder if Chuck would give us an hour a day in return for all the buzz we've created over the years for Lumberyard 14~Forty? hmmmm....wonder how buzzed Chuck would have to beto do that?

Wassup with the Goldminers being snubbed on the TuneIn Radio app? Gumpdusky has their usual suspects streaming (KDKB, KUPD, KSLX) plus Anciently Modulated KDUS, but not Lumberyard 14~Forty. In addition to a completely useless web page, KAZG once again is lacking the Queen of Soul's R-E-S-P-E-C-T. C'mon catfish (lower case c), sock it to us!

I'd jump for joy* if the Goldmine actually streamed. But since it doesn't, TuneIn has nowhere to pick it up...

* - And by "jump for joy", I mean I'd celebrate it in this thread, listen to the stream occasionally for a few days, then probably hit it when I was bored and remembered it was on...

YIKES! ..the Goldminers' musical tastes are changing. Over the weekend, Nurse Jeff and I heard these late Sixties gems not previously heard on Lumberyard 14~Forty: Sunshine of Your Love, Cream; The Weight, The Band; and Nights In White Satin, The Moody Blues. Of course the irregulars like My Way, Alley Oop and Kookie remain. And wassup with the Beatles every 10 minutes? Maybe the KAZG call letters should be changed to K-A-Z-Beatles!

Beatles the new elevator music, Maybe the French fry vapors from the Jack n the Box downstairs affects programming thought processes.

The Nurse and I are about to make a citizens' arrest as the 8am station ID aint legal on Lumberyard 14~Forty. Uncle Buck of the golf show says "KAZG 14~Forty", then a sickly rooster crows several times. To be legal, the ID should read: KAZG, Scottsdale. KDKB HD-2, Mesa. Or KAZG 14~Forty, Scottsdale-Phoenix. KDKB HD-2, Mesa-Phoenix. Or KAZG 14~Forty, A Cactus Radio Inc station, Scottsdale-Fountain Hills. KDKB HD-2, A Mesa Radio Inc station, Mesa-Guadalupe. Or........(this could waste even more bandwidth)

Lumberyard 14~Forty...

We ought to bring in Professor Fybush to this discussion!

(But I do agree with your take on it.)

Wassup with those KSLX Artist endorsements for Mark Mayfield's drive for St Mary's Food Bank that run at night on Lumberyard 14~Forty? Worthy cause indeed, but Goldmine listeners probably don't know Ian Anderson from Ian Whitcomb or Janis Ian. And then the air around the Lumberyard starts smellin' a little pungent when Cheech and Chong lend their support to the drive. Nurse Jeff and I were scratchin' our fezes wondering why Gumpdusky ran these promos on Saturday night - the day after the event concluded. Oh well, at least management figured out they can schedule more than music and liners after sunset. Only took a year since the Nautel was installed so we could enjoy worn out oldies 24/7!

:D

Ah, yes, good ol' Junk in the Box!

Newcomer here to the discussion of KAZG. Personally, I wish they would go back to playing more music and get rid of the talk shows, but that's just my opinion. When I'm at home, I seldom listen to the radio, but in the car, I listen to a wide variety of music while at the same time, trying to dodge commercials and the 1,846,287th playing of "Hotel California." My car radio buttons are set on KTAR-FM for news in the morning, "Real Country" 96.3, KDKB, KUPD (although I may get rid of that one--too many songs with "cookie-monster" vocals and guitarists who wouldn't know a riff if they tripped over one--one chord strummed endlessly while setting the distortion to MAX does not a riff make), KOOL-FM, KSLX, KRDE (who's bright idea was it to move KWSS to 93.9 and goof up KRDE's signal?), "Eva 95," and when I'm south of Camelback, KCDX. On AM, KOY, KAZG and a couple of sports stations. But now that Jim Rome is gone, I don't listen to KGME, and the only time I listen to KTAR-AM is if the D-backs are playing my beloved Dodgers and even then, I usually watch the game on TV). Anyway, I have to keep flipping through my selections, and when KAZG is doing blah-blah-blah, that limits my options by one station.

What in the Wide, Wide World of Sports is a goin' on with the recent music adds at Lumberyard 14~Forty? Nurse Jeff and I swear someone is throwing darts at Joel Whitburn's charts and adding whatever title the dart strikes. Case in point - Hello, Hello by Sopwith Camel. YIKES! The only camel song that fits the Arizona Gold fifties and sixties genre is the politically incorrect Ahab, the Arab by Ray Stevens. Double YIKES!

Meanwhile, the Nurse and I've asked Wonderful Russ to check out the axing price of the old Paddock Pools Round Up Drive In site as we're scouting for an east side Media Hut location. Being next door to the Ponderosa Lumberyard, and having plenty of room for student parking, is a big plus for us!
