A little help from the pros....

so.....anyone know if any stations in the Greenville/New Bern area are looking for a good part-timer, or have any full time openings?? Currently employed with a major media group here in Savannah, GA.... fiancee will be running a hotel up there, and seeing as she is/will be making more money then me.... I'll be making the move too. I'm looking to maybe line something up before I make a move up that way. Started out as an intern in high school, and have loved the biz. for the past 5 years! Thanks for your time, and replies if you know of anything!

It is (or was) very much a touristy and college town with UNC-Wilmington right there and, for a short time, UNC-Wilmington baseball became a farm team for the Boston Red Sox (which was great considering I am from New England) but I never made a game there before I left.

;D

I don't recall that. The Port City Roosters (Southern League) were a Mariners' affiliate. Then, in '01 Wilmington had the Waves, the Dodgers' Sally League club. UNCW baseball didn't "become a farm club." That just doesn't happen.

Great town though. I spent 4 years there. Loved it.

I am confident that UNC-Wilmington was, indeed, a minor league affiliate for the Red Sox back around 1999 or 2000 for a couple of years.

I have an email into the UNCW sports information dept for a confirmation. I'll get back to you with an official answer when it comes in. ;D

The opening that originaly got me to start this thread, was afternoons at Thunder Country...I saw last week that WSFL was looking to fill nights..So there's two for you....Looks like I struck out with both those opportunities..Good luck to you.

The Wilmington Waves of the South Atlantic League played left the city in 2002 and moved to Albany, Ga, then moved to Columbus GA in 2005. The team was in Wilmington for one season and was part of the LA Dodger's farm system.

Funny how things get twisted, isn't it? College teams don't play professional baseball. Period.

However, it HAS become pretty common for colleges/universities and minor league pro teams to share stadiums. The college baseball regular season is short and finishes by late May, while full-season minor league teams start in late April and go through the summer. I'm guessing that the Waves may have rented UNCW's ballpark.

Up in the northeast several universities share their stadiums with "short-season" teams (late June through Labor Day) with no scheduling conflicts at all.
