Aaron Solomon, Next Game Player

WSMV's morning show has gone into a tail spin without Aaron Solomon. Now the former channel 4 sports host turned morning host is resurfacing on The Game. That's a Good move!

Let's hope Aaron has what it takes to take his game and The Game to the next level. I know it's about giving 110% and taking it to the limit. Winners don't quit and quitters don't ein. Stepping up and bringing it to the table is critical, as The Zone has told us over the years. We have John from Antioch on line two. He wants to talk about the fourth string free safety for the Titans.

What happened? Are schools not cool anymore? No more reason to get up at 4:30 a.m. anymore, and hoping to get seen on TV with Snowbird! ;D

Typical case of new management coming in and making "improvements" for the worst.

Soloman joins others like Mike Bohan and Mark Howard who have left TV for radio, but I can't help but thinking that if at all possible, one should try to stay in television, because TV stations don't change formats at the drop of a hat! Still, I wish him well.

Not one of these guys left TV for radio.

Solomon is out of a TV job and is now going to radio to get a job.

Howard was in TV and moonlighted in radio. He was already doing his current Zone gig when he lost his TV job.

Bohan was in radio before he ever did TV, and crossed over frequently in the days when the WSMs and WSMV were one company.

TV stations may not change formats at the drop of the hat, but they certainly can change people at the drop of a hat. Just ask any of the three you named...

Mark Howard didn't "lose" his TV job. He quit it so he could work at The Zone full-time. Prior to that, he had been "moonlighting" (more like sunrise-lighting) as the sports guy on Carl P Mayfield's show for years. Carl's show was moved to 104.5 shortly after the format change to talk. (Remember that "The Zone" was not an all-sports station when it began.) When Carl was shown the door, Mark stayed around to host the first incarnation of the "Wake-Up Zone", which was basically Carl P without the Carl P, and was a really terrible morning show. They put Charlie Monk in Carl's seat, and kept Mike Donegan and Mark Howard around. That experiment went by the wayside after about 8 months or so, and the current "Wake-Up Zone" was born. That show was designed so Mark would be the "star" of that show with Frank Wycheck being the "jock" and Kevin Ingram being the glue that held it together. At that point, Mark decided it would be in his best interest to work for WGFX full-time and leave his permanent-second-fiddle-to-Hope-Hines position at Channel 5.

I will fully admit that I could be wrong. That's the story I was told, though.

Don't want to say you're wrong, but I was told he was let go by both a producer at channel 5 at the time and by a guy by the name of Mark Howard (but what would he know).

I for one wish The Game well...truth is no one knows how good OR how bad it will be. As many of us know the key is sales and how well the sales staff can sell the station.True you have to have something to sell but is looks like The Game knows that. A wise man once told me.." You dumb ass sell what you got not what you don't...now get out of my office"...

On that other thread about the Party becoming the Game, I linked to this article about the changeover:

http://www.wsmv.com/story/15277616/1025-changing-to-24-hour-sports-format

Well, the third commenter decided to get in this zinger at channel 4:

So excited that Aaron Solomon, former anchor at WSMV is going to be one of their headliners at 102.5 The Game. WSMVs loss is The Game's gain!

By the way, the previously quoted comment about 102.5 constantly changing formats was the first comment posted, not the second, as I had erroneously stated.

Could be wrong but I think Mark DID loose his tv gig...he was very bitter as I remember...
He obviously shrugged it off temporarily when they deified Hope Hines.
Long enough to appear on Sportsline on "the plus" with Hope before Hope retired. Class act for Mark if he was able to put all that aside long enough to appear with Hope.

Inconvenient reality: WSMV's morning show has been in a tailspin for quite some time. They haven't beaten 5's ratings in years. In the most recent ratings, some days they were passed by Channel 2 and were in 3rd place. And Aaron wasn't fired, he quit when they offered to let him go back to sports at the same pay he was making in news. His response then was, "I'm better than that." Guess a few months on the porch in Leiper's Fork changed his opinion. Can't wait to see how he likes working for Cromwell. This should be fun.

People saying they love him on facebook is one thing. People actually listening and getting rated is another thing.

And has he ever done a talk show? For 3 or 4 hours everyday? Don't think so. Not sure he realizes there's no teleprompter.
