ABC Pulls Jimmy Kimmel Live

CORRECTION/EDIT: Seems like the FCC is accusing Kimmel of comments made on Monday's monologue, not Tuesday. Here's the monologue in question, he says the "MAGA gang is trying to characterize this kid who killed Charlie Kirk as anything other than them":

Anybody with any brains working radio or TV knows making such a statement know this is not a place to go. All these broadcasters getting laid off or let go for saying thngs that the general public should never hear from them amazes me. They must have left their brain at the door because they sure are not using it.

Since none of us know the details of the contract it's all guessing...but just because the show is cancelled doesn't mean they will not honor what they agreed to pay him for the rest of the term. If they do continue his salary I don't know how he would have a leg to stand on for any type of repercussion to the network.

Working for a news division and working for an entertainment division are not the same. Much as being in the actual news function at Fox News is not being Hannity. Nothing was said about the victim.

And again, when the victim advocated for free speech, why is the party that previously decried “cancel culture” using the power of the government to do just that? Why has the AG gone on television interviews to threaten to use the power of the government to punish those who say something they dislike?

The Hollywood Reporter has more thorough coverage, but people on this board can connect the dots better than the general public:

ABC only pulled Jimmy after Nexstar, which owns 28 ABC affiliates, said it was pulling the show.

Nexstar is trying not only to get FCC approval for its acquisition of Tegna, but a lifting of an ownership cap to do it.

And Brendan Carr, FCC commissioner, who should be bending over backwards to appear impartial, went on a podcast today, applauded Nexstar and encouraged other affiliate groups to file suit.

I smell a huge class action lawsuit coming. This just reeks of cronyism.

Technically it could be wrongful termination. So a lot more than it’s worth.
Indefinitely off air could also be seen as a suspension.

Which podcast was it?

Why is it that ABC cancels Kimmel for opining that alleged shooter was MAGA adjacent, but Brian Kilemeade on Fox and Friends is allowed to advocate for the killing of homeless people?
Is it because ABC is an over the air network and subject to FCC oversight, but Fox is not subject to the FCC?
Is that correct ? Thank you, from Daryl.

It’s because MAGA good everyone else bad.

If Kimmel had made a remark that that alleged criminal was (liberal/gay/transsexual/etc), then there is a precisely zero percent chance the FCC would be making threats. None. It’s political.

Kilmeade's comments on the homeless were also inappropriate. I know he apologized. There are growing calls to pull him indefinitely, too.
