ABC sale update

From Radio Ink:

Disney Gets Radio Bids

TheStreet.com reports that the Walt Disney Company is moving deliberately toward a sale of its radio assets under new chief Bob Iger.

Disney’s 77 station radio division, which includes ESPN sports and ABC News assets across the US, is said to be worth upwards of $3 billion. Goldman Sachs and Bear Stearns are working on a possible sale.

The Financial Times reported yesterday that Disney fielded bids from three companies last week. Emmis Communications joined Citadel Broadcasting and Entercom in submitting bids. The FT report indicates that those bids were "underwhelming."

A Disney rep wouldn’t comment, but did point out that Disney’s radio group is a "wonderful asset."

I think Nickelodeon ought to buy Radio Disney! They are already clobbering the Disney Channel with programs that are far superior - why not capitalize on their success by having a network for their own singing stars: Jamie Lynn Spears, Emma Roberts, Drake Bell. All Disney ever had in the way of artists was Hilary Duff and Raven.

Nickelodeon is owned by Viacom

> Nickelodeon is owned by Viacom

Viacom is currently in the process of completing a corporate split that will put radio (Infinity Broadcasting) and basic cable networks (including Nick) into separate companies. It's unlikely that they'd turn around right after this and add the Disney Channel radio broadcast stations back into a company that was just split to get rid of the radio division.

What a wonderful time for GE to get back into radio!!!! All they have to do is
write a check out of their petty funds account and it's a done deal. After which a few market station shuffles would have to take place. Is it time? Could they do it or would GE want to?

Don't Forget Clear Channel (Re: ABC sale update)

I've read they also show interest on some of the Disney/ABC group radio stations.

I bet Mays & Co. would love to own WBAP (and thus owning both I-A's in Texas), plus WABC, WLS, etc.

That would be a tragedy. They have pretty much demolished alot of legendary stations and practically killed radio broadcasting all together.

Here is a hypothetical: If GE buys ABC’s radio assets; they could flip the call letters on KXAS to WBAP-TV. Is that too far fetched?

Yep it is...KXAS is WEST of the Miss River...

No it isn't. When CC bought Ch.4 KMOL-TV in San Antonio, it flipped the station back to it's original calls of WOAI-TV.

Bingo. I was about to say the same thing.

Not only that, but we could see the resurrection of NBC Radio. Could "Monitor" be far behind?<P ID="signature">______________

That would be cool. Monitor was a great program, and if done right it would work in todays lifestyle.
