"Actual" Staged Game Shows within television shows.

Here's what I can remember...

The "buy your prizes" version of Wheel of Fortune on an episode of 227

Family Feud on Mama's Family, Family Guy & other various shows

The 2-part Newlywed Game episode of The Brady Brides and other Newlywed Game parodies

Jeopardy! on various shows

The "Studs" episode of Family Matters

The "Osmond" Pyramid on Friends

The Price Is Right on various CBS shows

The Dating Game on various shows

MTV's "Singled Out" on Boy Meets World

Fred Sanford on the Gong Show (great episode), plus Rerun from What's Happening on the Gong Show

Who Wants To Be a Millionaire on Spin City

Love Connection on 227 and some other sitcom

-----------------------------------------------

That should get you started...finish the list!

Classic episode of Cheers was when Cliff was a contestant on Jeopardy.

Can't forget Felix and Oscar on "Password"..."Aristophanes"..."RIDICULOUS!"

Also, wasn't there a "Family" sketch on "The Carol Burnett Show" where Eunice was on "The Gong Show"?

Probably the classic of classics The Odd Couple with Oscar and Felix on PASSWORD with Allen Ludden of course. ;D O.K. Corky how about Peter Griffin from Family Guy also on Password with Tony Randall. "THE PASSWORD IS FLAMING" ;D

Maybe I'm cheating on the thread because these weren't "actual" game shows...

There was a classic Honeymooners episode in which Ralph Kramden competes on a Name That Tune type game show. Before his appearance, he practices his song identification skills with Ed Norton, who plays all the practice tunes on a piano. Every time Ed plays a song, he starts with the first couple of bars of Swanee River. Naturally, Ralph tells him to knock it off. When Ralph appears on the show, he fails miserably becaus he can't identify...(you guessed it) Swanee River.

I believe there is also a Honeymooners in which Ralph and Alice compete on a Beat the Clock type show.

Both of you are right. The Eunice sketch was one of the saddest when she get's gonged.

Felix and Oscar also appeared on "Let's Make A Deal," as a horse. Oscar was bringing up the rear.

IIRC, the way that played out was that Ralph's first question was, "Who composed this song?" The piano player then played "Swanee river" exactly like Norton did ("Way-down-upon-the-Swanee-River-Da-da-da-da-da-da!!!"). After several seconds of "Homina-homina-homina"s, Ralph answered, "Ed Norton?"

Wasn't there "Family Feud" on 227?

And, as to "really staged" game shows, there was an early "Happy Days" ep where Richie was on a game show in the 50s, right smack dab in the scandals. He was supplied the answers for the next show, and was grappling wih his conscience.

Cannot remember the name of the fake game show, but I think that Dave "Mr. Kincaid (Partridge Family)" Madden was the host.

Richie just could not take the money, so he said "I don't know" to the big question. Madden did a double-take, like "You're absolutely---WHAT?"

Yes, as a matter of fact. The episode you mention was titled, ironically, "Wheel of Fortune". And IIRC, it aired in the spring of 1986 during its next to last season.

Yes there was a Honeymooners sketch where Ralph & Alice were to go on Beat the Clock....

They had a week to prepare for their stunt. It involved balloons...Ralph had a few placed in the sink. Norton smoked a cigarette, and tossed the butt into the sink and popped one...

IMO a classic exchange:

Ralph: Only an *idiot* would throw a cigarette [butt] in a sink full of balloons!
Norton: Only an *idiot* would HAVE a sink full of balloons!

The game show, and Happy Days episode, was called "Big Money", which aired November 26, 1974 -- I recall the consolation prize being a gargantuous tube of the sponsor's toothpaste.

I know it's not the same thing but one of the funniest sketches from the early days of SNL was when the Coneheads appeared on Family Feud

Richard Dawson (Bill Murray): "Name something people like to bite"
Beldar Conehead: (buzzes in) "Protoid Capsules!"

On an episode of "Angie" (Donna Pescow, for those who've forgotten), her
family took on her doctor-husband's family on "Family Feud" and trounced his
family. Richard Dawson and Gene Wood appeared in that episode.

I also seem to recall an episode of "Maude" where she and Vivian were on a
fictional game show called "Beat The Devil."

And there was an episode of "The Mary Tyler Moore Show" where Ted auditioned
for the job of a game-show host (which, of course, he didn't get); Lou thought it
was slumming to go from being a news anchor (no matter how bad) to a, as he
put it, "quizzzzmaster."

Nobody's mentioned "The Flintstones" episode where Barney goes on "The Prize
Is Priced" on Fred's ticket, wins a sailboat, and then the two bicker over who
actually owns the boat. (There's a contestant on that show who has already
appeared on "Beat The Sundial.")

Finally, on one of the color episodes of "The Andy Griffith Show," Andy, Opie, and
Aunt Bee went to Hollywood; she got on a game show (hosted by "You Asked For It"'s
Smilin' Jack Smith), won a jackpot of prizes, and drove everybody in Mayberry crazy
showing them off.

Mama's Family: Mama won a trip to Hawaii on "Jeopardy!"

Alex: And Thelma, guess what you won!
Mama: Lee Press-On Nails. Right, Johnny?
Johnny Gilbert: No, it's a trip to Hawaii!!

Gimme A Break: Nell and Addie appeared on Wheel Of Fortune

Sanford and Son: Fred, Grady and Bubba appeared on a Let's Make A Deal rip-off game show titled Wheel and Deal where Fred was dressed as a gorilla, Grady dressed as the fairy godmother from Cinderella and Bubba dressed as a Viking.

Golden Girls: Dorothy dreamed that she was on Jeopardy!

Happy Days: Marion appeared on a game show similar to Queen For A Day (she told a fiction story about her life) where she was trying to win a trip for Lori Beth for her to go to Greenland to see Richie when he was in the Army.

Saved By The Bell: I remember the kids were on a game show that was based on a high school quiz show.

^ Great memory, Braves. Since you brought up the "Happy Days",

One episode of Top Cat was called "King for a Day," and had TC tell his hard luck story....

cd

That Girl-Ann appeared on a Dating Game ripoff called "The Mating Game" and was unaware that Don was one of the three contestants.
