Adam West Must Need The Money...

I've been hearing his voice on radio spots for Lending Tree. At first, I wasn't sure; I recognize the tone of his voice from his appearances on "Family Guy" as "Mayor Adam West;" then, the other day, for the first time, I saw a television commercial, with Adam West appearing on-screen. I guess he has to supplement his "Batman" royalties somehow...

He may or may not "need" the money, but I wouldn't assume. Does Gene Hackman need the money he gets for voicing the Lowe's Home Improvement commercials? I seriously doubt it. The fact is, Adam West has a good voice, and it's relatively easy money - a couple hours of his time, and a short drive to some recording studio. Why shouldn't he do voiceover work even if he doesn't need the money?

And let's not forget his Family Guy work. ;)

If you like doing the work, why not? Whether he does or doesn't "need" it (a subjective definition to begin with), maybe it's something he enjoys doing.

For a while, one of my students in my English class would work 'Adam West' into as many original sentences as possible. Thankfully, that didn't last long.

It's GREAT that Mr. West can finally get some decent work. "Batman" almost ruined his reputation as an actor.

The Batman series was a LONG time ago. It's not replayed nearly as often anymore. I'm sure Mr. West can use the extra money -- even if it's a small supplement.

i bought the "Ultimate" Petticoat Junction DVD set a few years back and also, more recently. the "Official" First Season DVD set put out by CBS/Paramount..In the first season of "PJ" there was a two part story arc in which Adam West appeared as a doctor..aired Jan. 14 and 21, 1964..In watching these episodes and closing your eyes..you can hear the "Batman" inflection in West's voice..2 years before Batrman's premiere...

Well...no kidding...and you can hear the "Batman" inflection in the voice of Mayor Adam West on Family Guy. That's because they're both Adam West's natural voice. All he did for Batman was use his regular voice, and add a generous helping of 'ham.'

It was Adam West's ability to really 'ham it up'...and not take the part too seriously that got him the part in the first place. The people behind "Batman" had come fairly close to casting Lyle Waggoner for the part", before deciding that he couldn't get "hammy" enough to pull it off.

Waggoner...as many might remember...ended up having a successful run as a cast memeber on CBS-TV's "Carol Burnett Show".

And as the guru of voiceover, Don Morrow, likes to say, "Voiceover pays more than brain surgery."
Why else are Morgan Freeman and Michael Douglas introducing the CBS and NBC newscasts, respectively?

Right, but Morgan and Douglas probably need the money. As it is, they both only have enough money to last to their 412th birthday.

Michael Douglas also has a high maintenence Wife and a young family to support! ::)

Morgan Freeman is Mister Narrator nowadays anyway.

Or maybe he needs the money after getting soaked like everyone else did in the markets a couple of years ago. Dignity holds its head high, takes a risk, does whatever it takes to keep the lights on - no matter. If it involves big dollars to get back to where one was in order to pull ahead again, all the better. People have their talents.

Adam West and others mentioned are just plain good.
You have the talent you can make stupid money.
The Voice of God, Don La Fontaine made $150,000.00 for a half hour session and worth every dollar.

Maybe, but no matter, people do what they do to provide for themselves and their families - and it is cut throat at times, so you deal with it.

Hmmm, sorry I don't get where you're coming from?

In other words, maybe he is doing the gig because he is popular, or maybe he is doing the gig out of need - perhaps as a result of losing a whole lot when the rest of the world was plundered for all they had.  No matter, he is doing what he needs to do to provide for himself and maybe others.  Show business is a cut throat business, and if you read the other posts in the thread, you will see that others have been cut out at some time or another.  People do what they have to do to whether anyone denigrates them or praises them.  No matter.
