Adjustments coming to WQKT flip?

Does anyone see any adjustments in the Canton/Wooster radio market to WQKT/104.5 flipping from country to Christian AC on Wednesday? Could another station in the Canton area flip to country? Especially gold-based country like the old WQKT? Or will things just stay status quo with no other changes in that region?

I doubt anyone will flip to country. 94.9 WQMX covers a large portion of WQKT's coverage area and WQMX is very much live and local I can't see another station flipping to country to fill the void of 104.5 becoming The River.

The western part of WQKT's area is covered very well by 101.3 WNCO.

One other thing to bear in mind was that WQKT's country format was all Westwood One-programmed. It was the local full-service elements and sports coverage that made it stand out.

Because Wooster is such a small market, and those were the only two commerical stations in the town proper, there likely isn't any way to fill the void. Certainly not with any Canton or Mid-Ohio station.

I suspect the change happened at 6am, as most format changes usually do, because their website - wqkt.com - is now proclaiming (no pun intended) "WQKT IS NOW CHRISTIAN MUSIC!"

When WELW-FM flipped to country in the early 70s, they played "When You're Hot, You're Hot" by Jerry Reed for an entire weekend.

HA HA HA HA. I remember that. While riding in the back seat of my parent's car, I told them what was going on, and to put it on for a while, which they did. "When You're Hot, You're Hot" and the Swamp Rock aggressiveness of "Amos Moses" (in reference to using one hand to catch an alligator, Jerry says: "That's all he got left 'cause the alligator bit it") were his hottest hits.

They technically flipped at 5 AM. They had their Ag. Program starting then and during the program they kept referring to themselves as "WQKT The River". Their actually morning show started at 6 or a little after.

As I drove into millersburg today I turned on 104.5 I will have to reference a movie quote from Tommy boy I wanted to jerk the steering wheel and hit a bridge inbutment that being said this is such a shame that this happened! Here in Holmes county we have now 1 commercial station you can receive now.. Wqkt was listened to by everyone and very supported by local business. I don’t see the advertisement support staying around we have 6 Christian radio stations well 7now and how much do we need? I took advantage of the beautiful day and gotten the outdoor antenna working so now I can crank up wmms for the Indians games. I kinda hope this blows up and a local person snatches the stations up there ARE plenty of people who would have bought it I personally know one and they had the cash to give them for it and he stopped along the road this evening venting.

I tuned n this morning just for a minute. The morning show is just not Wayne/Holmes County. I don't see that urban sounding of a show being received well in our rural counties. As a facebook commenter posted on their page "doesn't seem like they read their audiance well"

Time will tell and they did get a lot of 'hate' on their FB page. Truthfully it blew my mind that some folks actually thought the WW1 Format was local and that by putting "The River" on they fired a bunch of local jocks - but I guess being a former industry person I can smell a satellite feed miles away! (The way they ID'ed under Sports Country was a dead giveaway it was not a local format but the casual listener can be fooled).

The River still has local staff there my understanding the few people let go were part-timers basically the folks who babysat the professional sports programming.

They are still airing the AG show during the mornings 5a-6a and they are running some other AG spots during the dayparts on The River and I heard some local "River produced" ads airing about some of the businesses that previously had advertised on WQKT. The way they feed "The River" they can pretty much do 100% the same type of inserts that WW1 did but it sounds much 'cleaner' than the WW1 Satellite format transitions with how they program it.

My understanding is they plan to keep the local sports and ag programming and also the news that airs now on the AM.
