AEV Exclusive FM Processor Question

Hello,

I have received an AEV Exclusive FM ( Italian AEV/RVR design) 10 Multi-band processor from a radio station for calibration and alignment, since it was not performing correctly lately.

The radio station is currently running on a back-up processor, so the AEV processor can ban calibrated and aligned.

I was able to go well thru the multiband and AGC alignment.
The noticable point, I came across is, the limiting section of the AEV Processor, for example if the legal modulation limit (according to FCC rules) is 95 to 100%.

On the AEV, with some audio material (for example music) it would sometimes ' slip thru ' some high peaks that would go to 105 %
I would appreciate if there are users or engineers that can give an advice, about the limiting section of the AEV Exclusive Processor, in order to achieve that the processor would limit all audio material to 100%.

My e-mail adress is: [email protected]

Also it would be great if there are users that have the AEV Exclusive FM installed, to share with us their experiences about this processor.

Thank You.

Depending on age their was 2 overshoot corrector versions on the exclusive.
Either way their is no hard clipper after the corrector, that is why they recommend the composite clipper after the exclusive.

Also the vca stages use ssm2018 ic's,aev used temp compensation with thermistors and fixed resistors, you should not need to calibrate these as every single vca comp was individually calibrated to follow the curve by using selected values.

Does your version use a metal can for the overshoot corrector or discrete inductors ?

Hello,

Thank You for the reply and information.

The AEV Processor went in service in 1994 when the station started broadcasting, according to information I have searched on the internet, this model went into production in 1992.

I will open the unit, and check if there is the metal can for the overshoot corrector or the discrete inductors, and I will let you know.

I forgot to mention that this AEV Processor model has the encoder board installed, so I can feed the 19 KHz Stereo pilot directly into an FM Exciter, and measure the modulation on a radio receiver.

I had both versions of this processor with encoder card, the earlier version of the o/shoot corrector was a copy of a well known manufacturer that has one cap value difference only.
The later canned version was inferior, when active it would produce tilted type waveforms on it's output, and audio distortion was worse.
At the time i tested both side by side.

Do you have the schematics for it?

Thanks for the information !

I have reviewed the modules, it looks like the canned version, I can send you pictures of the encoder board of the unit, so to confirm that the information is correct.
I will continue tommorow with the review of all the boards to make shure that they are firmly seated on the slots, and also to remove any dust from the boards.

I will PM you the picture of the encoder board.

Regards,
Richinald

The first thing i would look for is electolytic cap problems.
As the psu is switch mode check that no caps have any bulges on the tops.

Check the regulated supply rails for any switching ripple,if all is ok then you can move on and check for calibration of the processor in general.

Also i remember the small fan on the back being noisy due to high rpm!

Hello I have AEV EXLUSIVE FM and my engineer say that SSM2018 burned. Can you help I search a lot to found SSM2018 but I can’t found it any ware.

I also search to found telephone for AEV but someone say me that the company closed. Does anyone know anything

Sorry for my English

Digikey.com. It's $5.82 plus shipping, of course, from Minneapolis (or perhaps a Dallas area warehouse?) to your location.
