which suburban NYC stations are AFTRA? (WHLI, WKJY, WDHA, WMTR, WBGO ?) Any others ?

This topic was discussed over on the dentist board about 2 weeks ago. WHLI and WKJY are AFTRA. SInce WBZO and some other Suffolk station are in the same building I would think they are too. What kind of money can a midday jock in the suburbs make these days???

Stations can be in the same building with the same owner and not both be union shops... Particularly if a station was unionized prior to consolidation. For example, CBS Radio Hartford is split. WTIC AM/FM are SAG/AFTRA, while WRCH and WZMX down the hall are not unionized.

Same with Cumulus NY. WABC and WPLJ yes, Nash FM no. Not that it makes much difference anymore with the half assed job SAG/ AFTRA does for any of their members!

It makes no difference. I was at one time a member of NABET, and another time AFTRA. Neither union did anything for me but collect money and send me a monthly glossy magazine. Non-union got holidays, union members got paid for working them. Like most unions, they've given up lots of rights over the years in order to get guaranteed money. Each contract was worse. The biggest mistake for AFTRA right now is over digital rights. They're completely on the wrong side, and members have lots tons of money because of it.

For most unions it's all about the union, not the members. That's sad but then the companies today are sobs too so it a lose lose situation in many jobs.
