It makes no difference. I was at one time a member of NABET, and another time AFTRA. Neither union did anything for me but collect money and send me a monthly glossy magazine. Non-union got holidays, union members got paid for working them. Like most unions, they've given up lots of rights over the years in order to get guaranteed money. Each contract was worse. The biggest mistake for AFTRA right now is over digital rights. They're completely on the wrong side, and members have lots tons of money because of it.
