Ahhh. The Fall book is out and a sale in the market and this board lights up. Always good reading. Let's see what we have:
1. Christmas Music is stronger than ever and KRWM jumps to number one (double digit numbers in December phase). Who got hurt in December? The usual stations KPLZ, KMPS, KWJZ. (Before you count KMPS down, let see what happens when their ugly December month goes away)
2. Who is tops in the morning? For women it was about the same as last year in the key 25-54 demo. WARM, Kent and Alan, Icky and Fitz (now virtually tied) own women. Bob Rivers, BJ Shea have the guys. T-Man win again 18-34. Gee
not much change, except an extra country in the mix. Good job WOLF
3. Who are your players overall in women 25-54: WARM, Countries, KPLZ and KCMS on top. For men it was KZOK and KISW way ahead of the pack.
4. Who will flip format? Probably no one. KBSG might, but just because Bonneville likes to put news simulcasts on FM. On the ratings and sales front KBSG looks fine.
KNDD, I doubt it now that Entercom has four male leaning FM's. KNDD fits nicely by providing the younger end and fills out combo buys. KPLZ, probably not. HOT/AC is terrible 12+ across the country, but it delivers women and dollars. Their morning show remains top three in women again, the station is always top five in women. KBKS, maybe, but what would you flip to? They'd be better fixing what they have. JACK, nope. The station has morphed into a male station, but a little younger than KZOK. Nice combo for Infinity. Both Countries look great. Expect KMPS to get some of its older 40-54 end back once Christmas Music is factored out and they will beat WOLF 25-54 and WOLF will beat them 18-34.
5. MOVIN had a nice book, but has been declining since it peaked in August/September. In November/December phase the station didn't even muster a two share. They will need to do something to keep this going in 2007. MOVIN is a huge failure across the country. SF, LA, etc are having no luck. I wonder if MOVIN will post its December trend in R@R, like they did with their June trend. I don't think so!
6. Finally the AM battles. KIRO and KOMO in a dead heat, but neither in the top ten 25-54. KTTH had the best numbers on AM for the second book in a row. No one else really in the game.
End of the year on a four book. Zero change in the market, except for the WOLF, which is the solid second country on a four-book and looked good. JACK had the biggest decline of the year on a four book. Everyone else, about the same. 2007 here we come! Where is Iknowitall when you need her?
