When will we expect Air 1 to air on 101.7? They're saying the first quarter of 2013, what does that mean??

I don't have any inside information, but I am not sure that assumption is correct.
With CBS owned Classic Hits 98.7 KLUV owning the “K-Love” name in the Dallas market, our assumption is that 101.7 will run with the Air-1 Network when EMF takes over.

sshuffield70 said:Well, both KGGR and KHVN are black gospel stations. KLTY is, of course, Christian AC. KTCY would be Christian CHR. So the answer is.....not much.

Bingo.. and Power FM "KVRK" that folks get in parts of north Dallas is "Christian Rock" Air1 kinda fits in between everything else already in the market.

I think Air-1 is sensing a vulnerability in the business model of CCM stations. I've been involved in Christian broadcasting, and was faced with a creeping movement of "safe" mediocre "praise and worship" style CCM music. It was unstoppable. It devastated CCM and drove many good stations off the air, and a lot of people like me off the air for resisting it. !5 years later, you had the "soccer mom" demographic that supports CCM. But - just maybe - that business model is crumbling, and soccer moms are a bit more fun than slow, boring praise and worship music. Streaming is breaking the monopoly hold of the praise and worship types in Nashville - who made money, while avoiding most of the anti-CCM tirades on web sites and from prominent preachers. The desire for more up-tempo, more fun music is beginning to gain momentum, and Air-1's assault on KSBJ's ratings in Houston is just one example. I guess people like me were right - but at the wrong time. I am glad that praise and worship stranglehold is breaking down. Praise and worship is not, and never was real CCM. It was always more fit for church services than broadcast. I haven't found a single song in the entire genre that is really a "radio cut". I never played any of it on the air, because it would just be bad radio. But what do you do when Grandma Pharisee writes checks to support it, Reverend Bigbottom preaches against Christian rock, an his church's contemporary service is full of praise and worship - and station management buys into the praise and worship garbage? If you are trying to program Christian rock, you are OUT - all the way OUT. Times are better now, hopefully.
Air-1 does not go far enough. Better music exists, it always has - just not receiving recognition it deserves. Houston's KSBJ and Orlando's WPOZ are two stations that are way ahead of the curve now, they are programming the real thing - real Christian rock, real Christian hip-hop on HD-2, etc. - and beginning to add over the air outlets for them. Maybe they are seeing the beginning of the end of the praise and worship movement and want to survive financially when Jesus finally cleans the money-changers out of the temple (so to speak). Maybe they just want to shut up critics of praise and worship. I don't know. But new, creative, and most importantly EFFECTIVE outlets like NGEN, The Rock, and Power 95.9 are gaining ground fast, and will assure the survival of KSBJ and WPOZ into the future. KLTY has no need to do something creative like KSBJ and WPOZ, because Dallas already has an excellent Christian rock station - KVRK. You can be if KVRK wasn't there, KLTY would be all over the new formats just like KSBJ and WPOZ.
Enjoy Air-1, Dallas! Word of mouth in Houston has been incredible - everybody is hearing about and trying the "new" station. The play list is still slanted way too much towards old, tired praise and worship with several real clunkers played per hour, but at least they have some of the Christian rock artists and play them without looking over their shoulders in fear of criticism from anti-Christian rock types. By the way, those fears are far from unfounded. I had some real bad experiences with those types when I was on WAPN in Florida. We had incidents, threats, and calls laced with profanity from them. We had to add security as a result. There are some people that REALLY hate Christian rock music and do not want it to be on the radio.
