Al Brock Exits WRQQ/Nashville
CUMULUS Classic Hits WRQQ/NASHVILLE PD AL BROCK tells ALL ACCESS, "Due to some internal station restructuring, I have exited my position as PD of WRQQ effective immediately. [EDIT]

I'm sure all of the former Oldies crew are reeeally torn up about it..

Sorry to hear about Al leaving. He'll be back soon somewhere. He's too good of a programmer and personality to sit on the sidelines for too long.

Maybe now, the on-air talent will have a chance to grow and not just be liner card readers: "Bob and Tom all morning, Sweet Home Alabama all day." And perhaps the new guy will dump Bob and Tom...possibly the worst morning show, syndicated or otherwise, on the planet.

Or, the group will just maintain status quo. Same s***, diffferent day. What a waste of a signal! But hope springs eternal.

The new PD is from the Clue-m-less Classic rock in Toledo....so much for hope

If I hear "Bob and Tom all morning" one more time, I'm gonna scream. Who gives a Flying **** who's on all morning? This station is too predictable and it seems like they can't decide whether they want to be classic rock or classic hits (105-9 is no better).

'Twas my understanding that the guy from Toledo was coming to take the afternoon shift and be MD rather than PD.

The good news: XKR's a great classic rocker, reminds me more of what I think KDF would've been today as a Classic Rocker than it reminds me of the current Rock.

The not-sure-if-it's-good-or-bad-but-could-go-either-way news: The dude's been hosting afternoons on the station for 14 years!

I guess he's planning to 'retire' soon??? One way or another.

Wait: Maybe he'll be the guy to flip KDF back during halftime of the Titans season opener ...
(I had to clarify which teams home opener...the Titans or The AL/TN Tide...that makes me ill just typing it in jet, I mean jest :-X)

Do you really think that the format and the numerous tweaks are Al's doing? From what I hear, Al was getting pretty frustrated taking direction from corporate programming. He never actually got to program the station they way he wanted to. Someone in Atlanta made most of the decisions for him, which is too bad. I knew Al from a few markets ago, and he has a great programming record. I talked to him last night and he said he was in some ways "relieved".
The new guy is supposed to be the APD and he is from Crumulus in Toleedo.

I agree completely. 105.9 is 10 times better than 97.1. What's wrong with 97.1? Cumulus.

When I first saw this post, I thought there may be a change for the good and they bring back the Oldies 97.1 format, and the former jocks. Then it hit me, they really can't. They have that contract with Clear Channel on B & T and it's going to be sometime before they can get out of it.

I was told by an unreliable source that the contract states the station must lean towards a "Classic Rock" Format in order to air B & T in a market.

If the above statement is or was true, can't there be a compromise in the contract? WRQQ is the sorryist excuse for a Classic Hits station that I've ever heard. Classic Hits should be Classic CHR or Top 40....throw in the 60's, 70's pop & disco, and some of the big 80's hits that people can dance to. Sweet Home Alabama is a wore out Classic Rock Song that needs to be buried in a time bottle and thrown in Old Hickory Lake!

Scott

Let us not forget former GM Steve Dickert's recorded quote,"Wherever possible Cumulus will hire local talent and personnel." Latest bloodbath: Bob and Tom, network from Indianapolis. Randy Railey and Big Al, both from St. Louis are gone, new PD from Toledo OH, local Jake Wilde: out the door. Someone get Cumulus a map, unless by "local" they mean North America.

GM's are really DOS's
PD's are really Music Directors
Y'all haven't figured this out yet?
Do not mind the man behind the curtain...

I wouldn’t leave the house without an umbrella – given “The Cloud” that hangs over that station's license!

“HI-FIVE”, 1560! You might enjoy “JOSH-FM” [opposed to his jukeish cousin Jack]... “Just Old Seventies Hits – Just Old Soulful Hits – Just Old Super-Hits”. Pop-rock and soul with a 70s-focus – no shortage of appropriate 80s – and occasionally Josh gets bored and plays “Name that Tune” [and tosses on Manfred Mann’s “Quinn The Eskimo”, Sly Stone’s “Dance To The Music”, Tyrone Davis’s “Can I Change My Mind” – even the Beach Boy’s “Wild Honey” from the late 60s]. Jocks but no jingles – just about four-dozen variations of people screaming “J-O-S-H!”

The other day, Josh got “frisky” and dared to venture beyond the Billboard Top-20 and play Tony Carey’s “A Fine Fine Day” [#22 in Spring-1984] – but not before an image-liner that gave the whole display some justice: FINALLY... A hit-music station for guys who don’t wanna wax their chest...” The drop-in that followed was hilarious and hearing Mr. Carey [again] was a sound for sore ears. Unfortunately, Josh may be too hip for the corporate room

Welp, as far as I'm concerned, Nashville rock stations can flop around all they want...folks in N TN call me everyday, and that makes me all warm and fuzzy!
Too bad they don't get our diaries!

The Commission could care less about programming. They have mighty big other things now to worry about besides AM & FM radio, and they have cut staff in DC quite abit in the last 5 years. Seems the only interest they have these days is the crap they have coming to them by Ibiquity. I believe the government has a vested intrest in Ibiquity. Thier intent is to SLAM IT down the public's throat!

Kevin Martin, the commission's chair person is WAY more concerned about this XM/Sirus merger than he is about some 50KW FM station that stopped playing 60's Oldies in Nashville, TN and went Classic Hits. Catch my drift? I get constant NAB email alerts all day long on this subject.

I don't think the FCC ever had any interest in format changes...but Martin will never allow the XM/Sirius merger
to happen...and has repeatedly said so.
