Al Martino

I just read Al Martino passed last October. Did not hear a word about this on the radio or tv, just went to google him. For the amount of talent and quality of music he was under-rated.

I didn't know that either. I believe he was performing until his death.

I enjoyed his stuff. Even in the 70s with "To the Door of the Sun." "Spanish Eyes" still gets a lotta airplay on standards stations. Even sappy stuff like "Painted, Tainted Rose" he had a knack to make work.

He even charted up to #49 on the Hot 100 in 1977 with "The Next Hundred Years."

Bona Serra, Bona Serra, don't make me send Luca Braci to pay you a visit...Like Johnny Fontaine....he was a Crooner.....Crooners are not sappy...

The night after his death Dick Biondi told some stories of his meetings with Al Martino & played several of his records on WLS-FM.

Al Martino - one of the last real crooner entertainers. (And I use the term "Crooner" in an admiring way.)

RIP and God speed.

Two of my Favorite Al Martino recordings ...."Hush. Hush , Sweet Charlotte" a big hit for Patti
Paige (neither version were used in the Movie, the Jimmy Joyce(???) version was used.. and my number favorite is "Mary In The Morning"

Johnny Fontaine was first offered to Vic Damone after he turned it down, Al Martino jumped on It...Frank Sinatra never talked to him again.

When I want to listen to the vocal of "Spanish Eyes" I listen to Al Martino. Would that he had recorded it with the Bert Kaempfert orchestra, my imagination runs wild with this thought. 8)

I remember listening to CFZM one night some time back and the DJ made mention that when he saw Martino perform one night a number of guys who looked like mobsters were sitting up front and giving Al song requests with cash attached!

The note read "ehi Johnnie cantarmi una canzone"

What does a mobster look like?
