Al Roney

No fan of Beck am I [/understatement], but using NYC (market #1) as a barometer for Albany could be comparing apples to oranges. In NYC, Beck's on a directional 50kw AM signal vs. Scarborough who's on 50kw non-DA WABC. But more important, Joe has a more powerful lead-in with Imus than does Beck. Still, Beck... feh!

In Albany, it is 10kw directional WGDJ competing against 50kw non-DA WGY....

Clear Channel creditors poised to pick up pieces

If radio giant Clear Channel Communications can't restructure its debt in the next few years, it will likely collapse, sources told the Post.
And that is exactly what some of its large creditors want.

"Imagine No Clear Channel"

This is most likely pure fantasy but could things ever progress to the point that Clear Channel would have to sell all it's stations?

This would be the radio equivalent of the Berlin Wall coming down.

Just a dream.

If anything, they'd probably go the CBS Radio route and sell off their smaller markets while holding onto the larger ones.

So, realistically, CC could sell all of its stations in Albany, NY, while holding onto their New York City cluster.

Kind of a moot point if he's still under contract with Clear Channel.

He's not under contract with WGY, he had a standard non-compete clause which means nothing in NY. Radio Hosts from Buffalo to Brooklyn have gone to court over these and prevailed. New York is a right to work state. The non-compete couldn't hold air. I don't think CC is foolish enough to waste money and further tarnish its image with the public in regard to Roney, by trying to keep him from taking a gig after they fired him. Poster #111 on the TU website said PV announced this morning that he had made his decision, the new host was local and would begin Monday.
