ALF COMING TO HUB

HUB seems to be taking advantage of other networks lack of programming skills. ALF would have been a good fit for Me-TV or Antenna TV also.
http://blog.sitcomsonline.com/

HUB adds Lois & Clark Sun. June 3rd 8-11 PM

Monday June 4th
8:30 PM ALF (Mon-Thur)
9-11 PM Mork & Mindy

Tue. 9-11 PM Happy Days
Wed. 9-11 PM Facts Of Life
Thur. 9-11 PM Sabrina, Teenage Witch

Do you think these night blocks are any better than each show airing nightly?

Well, it works for TV Land (and Antenna TV on weekends)...

Out of all the 80's sitcoms they could have chose, why ALF?

At least they are trying new stuff, unlike Antenna and Me which seemed to just rotate the same shows.

It's kid and family friendly, and the concept of an alien on earth also is just as possible as it was back then too.

I would say Alf, Alice and Mama's Family are the top retro shows missing from TV right now.

Well, it's different strokes, for different folks, as Sly Stone used to say. In my opinion, Alf was passable - I used to watch it occasionally in its original run, and I might actually check it out once or twice on Hub. But for me, Mama's Family was miss-able -and I liked the original skits on the Carol Burnett Show. Alice made shivers run up my spine, and made me what to punch out Linda Lavin (especially for that putrid theme song) and the creepy woman who played the third waitress (not Flo).

If by "creepy", do you mean Diane Ladd [Belle Dupree 1979-81; Diane played Flo in the 1974 movie upon which the TV series was based, Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore] or Celia Weston [Jolene Hunnicutt 1981-84]?

As far as The Hub getting the Alf reruns is concerned, their effort was, as Alf himself would say, "no problem".

No - I like both Dianne Ladd (Laura Dern's mother) and Celia Weston - both very good character actors. Ladd recently played Dern's mother on Dern's new cable series Enlightened.

I just imdb'd Alice. I was talking about Beth Howland, who played Vera.

I have the Alf DVDs and the last year was awful but the other seasons were good.

It's a shame Me-TV turned into what is has. It was so much better as a local channel. They used to rotate shows and such every quarter.

Of course Mama's Family was a slam, hands down winner for Ion, which dropped the show, basically 'cause it got tired of being known as "The Mama's Family Channel"

You're right...ALF was AWFUL that last year after the addition of Jim J. Bullock to the cast. I bought the first three seasons on DVD but had no interest in the fourth.

Last time I saw Mama's Family was a couple of years ago, during a marathon. The only episodes they played were first season ones, which are the only ones available on DVD. Oh well!

I would think that if Viacom still owns the rights to the show, TV Land would be a good fit.

You made me think of when Opie and Anthony ripped on the "Alice" Theme with a funny mention of "The Ropers" theme at the end.

I wonder how these shows like Facts of Life, Mork and Mindy, and ALF will do for this channel...

I'm just wondering, because none of these shows have aired in syndication in a long time, and there must be a reason. They just seem kinda dated compared to a lot of other shows from those eras.

And daytimg shows like "The View" and "The Chew" and "The Talk" have three and four letters.

@Ding: I do recall seeing "Alf" on WGN right before "Outta Sight Retro Night"... Of course, most "Alf" episodes can be seen right on YouTube.

Facts of Life just recently aired on The Hub and Teen Nick. It might even still be airing on those networks, I haven't checked recently.

Step By Step is another family show without a home right now.

'Step By Step' never was really that popular (it was a Friday show), although the first couple of years showed promise. It did boost Suzanne Somers career however, where she later moved to home shopping and made a lot of money. Now, it'd seem too 90's. Also, Cody (Sasha Mitchell) was apparently fired for domestic abuse but that has been cleared.

I think 'Who's the Boss?' was more popular (although it ran years before) and would be more liked now. Atleast the early years before the 90s were likeable. but only one season of that show was released on DVD.

GMC is picking up sitcoms too. 'Family Ties' which was last on the Hub is currently there.
