ALF COMING TO HUB

Step By Step is another family show without a home right now.

'Step By Step' never was really that popular (it was a Friday show), although the first couple of years showed promise. It did boost Suzanne Somers career however, where she later moved to home shopping and made a lot of money. Now, it'd seem too 90's. Also, Cody (Sasha Mitchell) was apparently fired for domestic abuse but that has been cleared.

GMC is picking up sitcoms too. 'Family Ties' which was last on the Hub is currently there.

I recall Patrick Duffy (the father on Family Ties) appearing on The Tonight Show. Carson had him on frequently because he could be funny. Duffy made it very clear that Step by Step was his "retirement plan." To me, that meant clearly that he thought the show was junk, but was doing it for the money.

I recall Ted Danson saying the same thing some years later about Becker

I think you have Duffy confused with Michael Gross (Steven Keaton on Family Ties).

That aside, I read somewhere that since Lorimar (before it was absorbed into Warner Bros. Television) produced both Dallas and Step by Step, Duffy had it in his contract that if Lorimar produced another new series, he had "first dibs" on the project, hence the "retirement plan".

No - I don't have Patrick Duffy confused with Michael Gross. I meant to say Step by Step, just typed in "Family Ties," for some reason. In a certain sense, a bunch of those 80s - 90s sitcoms were interchangeable...at least, that's my excuse. ;D

I think 'Who's the Boss?' was more popular (although it ran years before) and would be more liked now. Atleast the early years before the 90s were likeable. but only one season of that show was released on DVD.

I could see WTB? on GMC. I think it did decently on Hallmark. It would fit well, IMO. INSP has picked up a couple of sitcoms also.

If it did well, wouldn't Hallmark have kept it longer?

Some of the Christian channels (GMC, INSP) might not pick up 'Who's the Boss?' because it wasn't a nuclear family presented. It may have a better chance on The Hub, or Me or Antenna however. Like many sitcoms, the later years weren't as good as the earlier years. Nobody wants to see Alyssa Milano with that boyish haircut. ;D but the earlier years were nice to watch.

Edited- It wouldn't go on The Hub either. While WTB was 90% family oriented, it wasn't a nuclear family and 10% was the innuendo and Mona being Mona where it wouldn't fit so well on a kid theme or channel with Christian TV roots (GMC, INSP, FamilyNet).

On Step By Step, I initially thought there were a few episodes where it seemed that the show could have gone to reach the 'Home Improvement' caliber level, but it never did. The kids from the different families were fighting too much and Cody was annoying.

ditto. The thing hurting Who's The Boss is probably that it was played to death 90's-00's. And
much of their tabooish topics are even today too hot for some channels. Who's was very inconsistent
also, only about 75% are actually watchable.

I guess I agree that I can't see it on INSP, whose shows are as pure as the driven snow (save for maybe a little bit of Happy Days), but GMC airs 227, which I found rather surprising after watching some of it - there are some suggestive references between Mary & Lester, not to mention Sondra and the lifestyle she seemed to lead. Maybe not as bad as some of the WTB? references, but I think 227 is pushing the envelope for a Christian TV channel. Surprised they didn't edit it out.

The Hub airs The Wonder Years, which seemed quite strong in subject matter at times to me - more than WTB?.
