All-Christmas?

Heard a strong rumor that BOTH WRVR and FM 100 are headed All-Christmas on Monday. FM 100 is even promoting that "Winter Is Coming" on Monday Morning.

Are we going to get a head-to-head Ho-Ho-Showdown?

I hope not! I know it is a ratings success for one, but two? We'll be ready to run Santa over (if not shoot him) by Christmas.
______________

Well... in Boston, Infinity's WODS went all hohoho this morning. Not that it means anything company-wide though, because WODS always goes all-Christmas since this trend started about 5 years ago.

WRVR I could see doing all-Christmas, since it's their tradition... but, if FM 100 does it too this will be interesting. Last year WRBO had a version of the format with Christmas soul music (actually it was a refreshing change from the norm)...

Where's Kay? wadda you think?
______________

I heard the 100 promo too. I got the impression it was a "Christmas Vacation" giveaway that starts. (vacation packages, etc.) For the sake of the jocks, I hope they don't. It's hell with a sleigh bell. I personally doubt that move, it's too redundant, and not a good HOT AC move, but we'll see. DK may have heard that in a staff meeting, for all I know...

OH,GOD! Say it ain't so! As someone who has done entire shifts of all Christmas music on WRVR...it SUCKS! (can't argue with the ratings, though)
By the time the actual Holiday arrives...you could stick a candy cane through your temple. And I was part-time! The full-timers should be on suicide watch!

Since I'm here again for a moment...
What's the deal with all the Christmas songs from Neil Diamond and Babs?(and others) Am I the only one that finds that a little ironic?

Cute post, by the way CF!

Ok, Steve, here ya go...

Of course, WRVR is THE Christmas music station. It has become a major ingredient of the success of the station. I can tell you that many people didn't think that would be true at the beginning. When we put it on that first Thanksgiving, our department head meeting the following Monday was something else. Curt Peterson had gotten calls from some clients, and he wanted to pull back to weekends only. Steve Butler was nervous about it too because of initial listener reaction. But, thankfully, it all worked out. Also, we were worried Oldies 95.7 would go Christmas at the same time. Can't remember where we heard that rumor, but it did worry us.

As for FM100...I honestly don't think they'll go Christmas. I agree with CFKane. It sounds as if they've got a new promotion on the horizon.

BUT, who's to say. Infinity could pull a fast one and surprise us all. Wouldn't that be wild?

It wouldn't be so bad but they try so hard to stick with their narrow format that you hear the same crappy songs over and over, especially the butchered up pop versions of classic carols. Pop stars should be shot for premeditated murder for what they do with "Oh Holy Night". They should expand the playlist and play stuff from a lot more albums, lean heavy on the classics and traditional. can the bad pop stuff.

You sure it wasn't all in Curt's mind? LOL...

I remember hearing that same rumor. Apparently we mistook it for Christmas when they meant to say they were going all CHRISTIAN haha.... Strangely enough, Bob McLaine hadn't heard anything officially but he told me he was very nervous starting around Thanksgiving before the flip... They knew WOTO didn't have much life left. All Christmas would have been a stunt format and a month jockless. Surprised that Clear Channell didn't do it just for the money saved...

Actually, if Clear Channel had been ready to flip formats, that would have been a smart move. As you'll recall, we LMA'd WEZI and went all Christmas until the flip to Froggy. It proved to be big success and was the seed for WRVR's Christmas format. At the time, RVR was wall-to-wall holiday tunes only from 7-mid.
