All MJ, all the time!?

When this nonsense began nearly a month ago I figured it was some kind of publicity stunt. But "All Jackson" seems to be permanent. If I were a big Jackson fan I'd buy a dozen of his albums and listen to them in stereo without any static from a nearby computer monitor or fluorescent light. The station's revenue must be clsoe to zero. The doctor in Yuma obviously hasn't a clue and I wonder when he'll prescribe something that makes sense. His patient is nearly as dead as Jackson.

They finally have one sponsor: I've heard a spot for the Tucson Symphony Orchestra's upcoming "TSO Rocks the Fox (Theater)--The Music of Michael Jackson" show! The show is this Friday, so they'll have a little bit of ad revenue through then.

From my experience I don't think TSO ever pays money for the commercials they run. It's always a barter deal for tickets and a sponsor position on their flyer.

When does the power bill come due?

How many of those can be paid for consecutively without a dime coming in to offset those costs?

Is MJ music 'for the community good' for the COL?

...when I was fired from WXOL/690 in Oshkosh, Wisconsin, in 1994, I was the last oldies jock on the air there; they kept me on for a couple of months after switching the rest of the format to Chuck Harder's People's Radio Network talk lineup because WCWC/1600 Ripon already had the local rights to Harder's live broadcast and had to cover that hole in the schedule. Station owner/PD/morning drive personality Steve Rose finally ran out of money, so he fired me as well as the last sales guy working there, changed the locks on the building (a bungalow near the tower site in rural Winnebago County), turned up the pot for the satellite feed, taped my final paycheck to the front door of the station and locked the place shut for two more months. No power and pattern changes at night, which allegedly raised hackles with Radio-Canada (whose CBF/690 Montreal was the clear channel signal assigned to that frequency), no IDs at the top of the hour, and no covering the hole in the schedule in which they were supposed to let WCWC have their live Harder exclusive for the market, which raised hackles on the necks of both WCWC and Harder himself. Harder was so pissed that he took the story to as many of the national trade papers as he could (Harder being the infamous publicity hound that he was). So the KWFM shenanigans sound really familiar to me. Rose eventually fire-saled the place to Milwaukee televangelist Vic Eliason, who turned it into the current-day WVCY, running his political religion programming...

Oh my god. It's still going. No commercials, no psas, nothing. Just the king of pop... over and over again. That must be one amazing salesman working at Michael Jackson Inc. He sold every second of every day of 1330 AM. That's gotta be some serious commission once royalties get paid.

Royalties are based on the station's revenues which in this case are probably close to nothing.
One song that gets played a lot is "Don't Stop Till You Get Enough". I think that most of us have gotten enough.

If Cumulus or Lotus did buy it, it would still be an Ipod on steriods. Unless the stations are pulling astronomical numbers, everything these days is voicetracked or via satellite.
