All News Coming to 95.5?

radioinsight is reporting that la about flipped to all news culumus has registered some domain points to klos fm website so time will tell

And when it does, time will tell you "NOT".

Why would they flip to a format that will generate a lower cume and a higher average listener age that is more expensive to run in a town proven to be a poor market for the news format?

April 1st has already come and gone; you missed your chance.

That is not what radioinsight reports. They say that someone "anonymously registered domain names using the company's usual registrar". The phrase "points to" was an unfortunate one, because it's also a technical term, but if you read the paragraph before it, you can see that the author, Lance Venta, is trying to line up the domains such as allnews955.com with Cumulus stations. And he notes that there are also Cumulus FMs on that frequency in New York, Nashville, Reno, Lafayette, and Savannah.

Anyone who's bored, has a few bucks, and knows who Cumulus' registrar is could use that registrar to do the same thing.

Mark and Brian can barely talk amongst themselves and they are the only things keeping KLOS afloat.

The only ALL NEWS bulletin is this rumor has zero legs to stand on.

Because FM All News start-ups in Washington DC, New York and Chicago have just been doing excellent, right?!

The bottom line is this: media conglomerates want results almost instantly, or at least decent progress to share with their investors. Developing an FM All News format is tricky because of the time and money required. And as seen from the examples of New York, Chicago and DC, it takes a longer road to get there than what we thought.

Cumulus would make a big mistake in blowing up KLOS. Their format can be run on the cheap and Mark & Brian must bill very well!

i was thinking hot ac to go head to head with KBIG would do or dance/CHR

That's not a formula: take a 5 share and split it equally yields a 2.5 share and KKGO-like billings.

But Wait in Chicago and San Francisco CBS put their all-news stations from WBBM and KCBS on FM too and they get the Top 3 spots in their ratings books and they aggressively cross promote it on their TV stations during CBS Local News and CBS primetime programming and on CBS sports programming. But then again KLOS could put their All-news operations on an HD subchannel like KNX does on 94.7FM HD-2 or HD-3. Cumulus needs to improve their News operations on KGO and KLIF. Also KGO has to improve their LMA agreement for KGO-TV7 and KOFY-TV 20. Maybe these rumors do hold weight since the flip of KGO-AM 810 in SFO and KLIF in Dallas.

WBBM and KCBS already had a recognizable brand with wide audiences on AM, an FM simulcast only expanded their audience. It would not make sense for Cumulus to launch an all-news FM station in Los Angeles. The cost is too high and would take a long time for an audience to arrive. They would face the same problems Merlin Media is facing right now in New York and Chicago.

Huh? Cumulus has no LMA for the operation of KGO TV... KGO TV is an ABC O&O. KOFY is owned by Granite.

Anyone who thinks that they can challenge 1070 or KFI for that matter, are EXTREMELY Idiotic!

I do remember Cumulus saying that KGO-AM will borrow content from KGO-TV 7 thats what I meant in the post sorry about that.

No one could challenge KFI? Sure they could! As long as they have the budget and talent to back it up...

Exactly. In the mid 60s, KLAC was the 800 lb gorilla of talk stations...until KABC blew KLAC away in the late 60s with hosts like Michael Jackson and Ray Briehm...then KABC reigned supreme for years. I'm sure KFI won't be number one forever.

Well if 95.5 FM is serious about calling them selves the "News and Information station" they really got to examine KGO-AM performance closely.

Well, KFI sure is "stimulating".
