All News Coming to 95.5?

radioinsight is reporting that la about flipped to all news culumus has registered some domain points to klos fm website so time will tell

That is not what radioinsight reports. They say that someone "anonymously registered domain names using the company's usual registrar". The phrase "points to" was an unfortunate one, because it's also a technical term, but if you read the paragraph before it, you can see that the author, Lance Venta, is trying to line up the domains such as allnews955.com with Cumulus stations. And he notes that there are also Cumulus FMs on that frequency in New York, Nashville, Reno, Lafayette, and Savannah.

Anyone who's bored, has a few bucks, and knows who Cumulus' registrar is could use that registrar to do the same thing.

I think Michael has hit the nail on the head on this one (please choose from the lovely box of stuffed animals and other such gifts for your prize!) but it must be a slow news week because lo and behold, Don over at LA Radio has now written about it twice in the last two weeks, with the last article (to his credit being accurately labeled as) nothing but pure speculation as to how it might happen. Good grief, talk about a non-story in a desperate search for any thread of a tangential fact to make it stand up. Cumulus' history here, M&B's contract there, websites being registered, on and on. Please, stop the madness!

Here is some insight that Radio Insight probably forgot to mention: Anyone can sign-up for and park a radio domain. I've done it myself (and enjoyed the wild speculation that went on here for a few days when someone on this board actually noticed and attributed it to all of the wrong sources and motives, but posted as if they were Mike Wallace dropping a bombshell!). Just because someone did it doesn't mean Cumulus did it, and even if they did, so what? Radio companies register domain names they may never use all the time. It would prove nothing.

Exactly. In the mid 60s, KLAC was the 800 lb gorilla of talk stations...until KABC blew KLAC away in the late 60s with hosts like Michael Jackson and Ray Briehm...then KABC reigned supreme for years. I'm sure KFI won't be number one forever.

In the 60's, the radio survey area was much smaller... enabling 790 to compete quite nicely with the rather superior 570 signal.

Today, and as long as talk remains viable on AM, KFI has the advantage of the best signal in the market, vastly superior to even KNX and way ahead of anything else.

Once all listening has moved to FM or new media, then the game is on and it will be based on content... which for the moment KFI can afford while nobody else seems willing to make the investment.
