All Sports Radio Station

Scott back to DVE? I guess any thing is possible in these times, but it doesn't make a lot of sense since:

a--I think Randy and Jim's ratings were higher
b--Single Randy, part time keyboardist for the Clarks, appeals to a younger demo than married Scott who writes a freakin' green acres column for the Trib.
c--I think Scott has said in the past he did not want to do morning drive again and didn't want those hours.

Having caught part of Krenn this morning, it's fairly obvious that he needs a partner, though.

Could scott be part of the new 93.7 the fan?

With all the talk of another all sports radio station starting up I would like your dream lineup. Money is no object. Time slots are not an issue. Feel free to intersperse ESPN personalities with Fox, satellite, etc. Assume this is the only sports station in Pittsburgh... 6P.M-10 P.M. Jim Rome.

Wow, you're actually giving Romey an extra hour? How very kind of you!

By the way, who is Carton from the Boomer and Carton show? He sounds obnoxious.

Craig Carton has previously been on the "Jersey Guys" afternoon drive show on the aptly-named "NJ 101.5" (a local FM talk station) before coming over to WFAN. Before that, though, he cut his teeth as one of the "Sports Guys" on the very, very low-rated morning show of the former WNEW-FM in New York (after many years as a rock station, they switched in 1999 to... a local FM talk station). How times have changed, as "Boomer & Carton" have helped WFAN achieve ratings in demographic categories that even their previous morning guy (Imus) couldn't. Carton is known to be abrasive at times on his WFAN show. In fact, a local sports media writer regularly refers to him in his column as "Craig Cartoon" (note the spelling).

Paulsen's back on the Drive today. Guess he was just "sick." I'm still not buying that we landed on the moon or that Oswald acted alone, though.

So it appears there's a lot less going on here than we first thought.... 93.7 appears to have been put together out-of-market, although some locals will be involved, and Baumann appears to just be a CC budget casualty and a coincidence of timing.

It looks like Paul Alexander will be a part of this new station.

On Tim Benz's show this morning, he said Jay Caufield would be calling in to talk Penguins since Paul Alexander was "unable to do it anymore".

There's a step in the wrong direction.

Paul Alexander? wow.

Steigerwald, who was quickly and thoroughly exposed for being a lightweight when he tried to do a general/political talk show, could be good if he sticks to sports. Wouldn't the drive be a much better show if he took Crowe's place?

No. Channel 2 bounced him because he became a miserable old man who hates almost everything about sports.

Part- 25 years ago Bob Pompiani was a co-host on KDKA's "Sports Huddle" weekend sports talk show at times.

I forget if he was a fill-in or if they tried him when Alan Cutler left and then went to Bill DiFabio, but I remember him as being bright and in the know.

What I liked about Pompiani was he was the ONLY guy in the Pittsburgh media willing to criticize Jim Leyland back then.

I also believe he used to co-host a Saturday morning sports talk show in Ambridge in the early '90s with Randy Cosgrove that was pretty good.

So while I don't know if he'd be looking for a gig like this, a station looking to hire a sports talk show host could do far, far worse than hire Pompiani.

I would doubt that Pompeani wants to do radio five days or a week, or that they would be willing to pay enough to change his mind. In his last TV contract he negotiated more time off because the 7-day weeks during Steelers season were running him ragged.
