at 7:35 pm on March 9, 2006 I just heard a man's voice (Possibly Bruce Elscott) outro a song by Cyndi Lauper and intro to Foo Fighters. Might we see the light of Day on DJ's on Jack-FM Indianapolis.

Again at 8:09pm Bruce was on introing a song from Henry Lee Summer talking bout how Henry Lee still plays at a local Indy Bar on Wednesday Nights.
Edited by MikeFromIndiana on 03/10/06 01:10 AM.

Almost a year

Many of us have said eventually the VH/Jack-type stations would work a personality component into their presentations. A growing number (mostly non-
Jack brands) have begun to do this. San Diego, St. Louis, Louisville, Phoenix and others, so perhaps their research is showing audience demand or expectation of a jock presence. I know many of the VH stations' perceptuals show their audiences not exactly demanding jocks- it'll be interesting to hear if they're on in other dayparts in Indy.

Please keep us posted.

I'll try to keep an eye on it when I'm at home.

Re: Almost a year

Jack will go away less than a month after The Cloud takes over.

Uh, Cumulus. Indy's Jack is now owned by Susquehanna - soon to be Cumulus.

Gold 104.5

cloud

I get you (and that is one dark cloud!)

sorry, but that's

wishful thinking from the anti-Jack crowd. Jack's not going anywhere- it's doing too well in the ratings and revenue departments.

Plus it will be hard to get the Gold Name back from the Franklin Rimshot Gold 95.9 unless Cumulus buys the name back. Im Sure Raven Broadcasting will hold that brand hostage for a big Dollars probly

Gold

well, I sure wouldn't name an Oldies station "gold"- ugh. I wouldn't give them a nickel for it, no matter how long it's been in the market.

What they didn't get was that the term "gold" is a RADIO TERM for non-current music. Radio listeners never have and never will use that as an endearing term as well as Oldies worked for years. Today, they're both viewed as extremely dated.

No owner would ever take a well-performing station and trash it.

[end sarcasm]

Example: WIBC in the early 90s before Emmis bought it.
Example: WENS in the 70s after Smulyan bought it.

I don't see Jack disappearing if it is truly top 5 in its demographic, though. At least not immediately.

Jack

Just because it's happened before (many more instances than you list) doesn't mean it will happen with Jack-Indy. Those things have nothing to do with this situation. No connection with past flips.

WGLD's revenues were dropping and the forecasts were not good sticking with Oldies. Nobody ever gives them credit for having the guts to make a tough decision but I still maintain that if Oldies really was THAT important a format in Indy, a major signal would have put Oldies on to fill the hole. No hole, no fill.

I don't see oldies returning to the market if no City grade signal has picked up oldies in the 362 days since the flip of Gold to Jack FM. And as is it took almost 6 months for a Rimshot signal to pick up oldies. Look at New York they still dont have a city grade oldies station. Chicago has one but it was almost 4 months between the WJMK flip to Jack and WZZN's Flip to Oldies.

Re: sorry, but that's

Smulyan didn't buy WENS, he bought WSVL Shelbyville & turned it into WENS. WENS didn't exist in the 70s. It went on in 1981.

Re: Gold

I'm coninced that WZZN's flip to oldies is only until the sale go through.
______________

That wouldn't shock me with the oldies flip on WZZN. Did Citadel get the ABC Radio sataliette music radio networks in the sell or did DIsney keep those

ABC Radio Networks are part of the deal.

Cumulus

Do you think Cumulus will ruin the success on 104.5 FM and screw everything up?

They've screwed up a couple of stations in my region.
