Alt 105.7 flipping

I read just now that Alt 105.7 will be flipping to a new format. I wonder what they will flip to? Let's hope no one is laid off or fired.

It’s about time iHeart throws in the towel on this loser! My guesses are Soft AC, Classic Hits, or Classic Rock. There’s a large hole for older music in Atlanta radio.

Alt 105.7 was doing ok, considering their signal limitations. Once they introduced the Woody Show, the station lost most of the ratings they had. Also, in general, iHeart doesn't seem to do very well with the ALT format any longer. It would probably make sense for iHeart to switch to a format they understand how to program.

Depends on what you mean. The format doesn't do well with anyone because the current music is a mess. But iHeart does well in Philadelphia, and their alternative station is beating the legendary KROQ in Los Angeles.

KYSR/Los Angeles is currently doing ok in their battle with KROQ, as the Woody Show performs well and KROQ is undergoing a transition in mornings with the exit of Kevin (and Bean). KTCL in Denver still does ok, as they seem to do their own thing. Philadelphia saw some significant decline in March, maybe COVID related; Atlanta has declined; Indianapolis has declined; St Louis is in the low 1s; Norfolk in the 1s; Detroit couldn't get out of the gate.

Spoiler: returning to Spanish, simulcasting ‘BZY.

Has La Raza been putting the hurt on WBZY since they added the WTSH 107.1 simulcast (and flipped WNSY 100.1 to a different Spanish format)?

The smartest thing they could do is what they're doing, moving Z105.3/WBZY to 105.7. The 105.7 signal is not competitive throughout the entire market, but it's fine where the heart of the Latino population lives.

I don't think its billings justify being on 2 signals and wonder if the simulcast will be a transition. If that's the case, they'll need to find a format for 105.3, which has been the reason iHeart has hesitated moving Z105.3 to 105.7.

105.3 is more of a south side signal, but it's actually fairly good over most of the market. The only areas where it's not especially good are North Fulton and also Gwinnett, which is a hotbed for Latino people.

Where are you guys reading this? I just spoke with someone at iHeart/Atlanta, and he wasn't aware of it (which doesn't mean much since he's home).

I, too, saw the rumors of a 105.7/105.3 simulcast of "La Zeta."

I'll place the odds of a long-term simulcast at 50/50. I think there is a certainly a chance after a period of time that 105.3 will flip to a different format. Moreover, the recent domain registration for 105.7 could just be a decoy.

How many formats have been on 105.7 since they flipped from WGST back in 2000? I believe all of these formats have struggled in the ratings over the years.

Classic Rock - Mix 105.7
Oldies - Cool 105.7
Spanish - Viva 105.7
Rhythmic AC - Groove 105.7
Rhythmic CHR - Wild 105.7 (which eventually went top 40 before the flip of Project 96-1 to Power 96-1 and up until the flip to Alternative).
Alternative - Radio 105.7 then Alt 105.7

I think Real 96.7 could eventually upgrade from its current spot on the dial to 105.3 MHz, not unlike what "Buzz" did so many years ago!
