Alt 92.3 to Become WINS Simulcast

RXP 2.0 was the best station we had here in NYC.
WRXP 2.0 was programmed with music logs from Chicago, 100% voice-tracked and was merely meant to keep the license active while Merlin tried to sell it as quickly as possible. The fluke 3.0 topline rating meant nothing but a further indictment of FM News.

If that's "the best station" the city has ever had... my question is why are the standards that low? Especially when the non-comms are live and programmed locally.

David, I have never taken my own personal music preference into account even when I am part of the target audience, that's just foolish, I knew better even before I stepped foot in a studio, or heck even when I started doing weddings at 13 because it was the only way for a teen to make money, well make, my female friends made 6 figures at 18 doing bottle service, I didn't have that ability due to sexism, as defined by Merrium Webster.
DC 101 is in a market without a hot ac so they and sister Wiht (that's their call letters I'm not a racist maga fake stereotype) can split up the hot ac audience along with Wash the ac station.

Market conditions define the available approach. 923 as Alt at first was doing it the best it could be done for this market, but I guess that wasn't good enough, so they tried approaches very flawed hoping to hit on some magic.

It's all cluster. You could program wktu to be always at least top 3 in every adult demo, but that would be at the expense of whtz and wltw, and then how wnew would adjust....These are not always such obvious decisions because it's never about just that one station.

As someone who came of age in the K-Rock days, I admit it's a bit sad that this format keeps getting tried and failing (I think this has been the second or third attempt in the past 15 years). That being said, the only way to have this format be done well is to have it personality-driven and cater to people 25-54 who may have grown up with an alt station and still like being nudged towards new music while enjoying the personality-driven content. I don't understand why anyone ever thought it would be feasible to try to convince Gen Z to tune into FM radio by playing 24kGoldn and Machine Gun Kelly but here we are.
I really think it's the God awful Elliot in the Morning that killed the ratings

Very true. He might've made them a bit worse. I doubt that move had any bearing on WNYL's ultimate fate. Station was gonna be a goner either way.
Correct.

Even if Elliot had double the ratings of his predecessors on WNYL, the station probably still becomes WINS-FM.
Even if the whole day had ratings on par with WNEW, WNYL probably still gets the axe.

Preserving WINS is very important to Audacy.

I mean he was a train wreck in himself. I am not sure how or why he was ever syndicated. I feel bad for DC101 his flagship station.

Perhaps WNYL has carried Elliot in the Morning because they did not want to hire a local morning show for only a few months, prior to dropping the rock format.

Forcing them to drop woody because it's what you want, You need to know that you have an incredible future working with kids in the public school system on the coasts and Chicago. You are so sought after by Dem that you could totally negotiate a few mill to start a school radio station during negotiations.

Hey, we need a new generation of radio talents, I just had to take the initiative here. I may not be the one who knocks but I sure am the one who yells "answer the door"

All I’m saying is 104.5 got better ratings in Philly with live and local in the mornings and I don’t want anything I was making a suggestion that’s all

Just a reminder for all of you complaining about Alt92.3: It's going away next Thursday.

After then, all the complaining won't matter anymore. Actually it doesn't matter now either.

I would say Audacy has had a plan for WINS to transition to FM for a while, but didn’t know when. I’m sure there was something - disturbing revenue trends, the format audience aging even more, costs that finally cemented a date for the move, but whatever was on 92.3 had an expiration date because WINS can’t stay on AM forever. Audacy “maintained” Alt, and probably would have continued to have if this move had happened later, but this was going to happen at some point. They probably didn’t want to enter in to any long term expensive contracts.

Alt would have probably really, really had to have billed higher than it did for WINS to go to 101.1 or 102.7 instead. This was just inevitable.
