Brady was my favorite. I used to call and request songs a lot on my way home from work. I would have loved to have seen Kevan and Brady do mornings. Christine and Omar were great too. I remember I won tickets from 92.3 when they first signed on in 2018 to meet Death Cab for Cutie. I went with my best friend. It was a lot of fun. I was so hungry when we got there they gave us pizza and beer I was more excited for pizza than the beer. Death Cab for Cutie was so nice and amazing live! I got a bottle opener which broke sadly and I got a pop socket and I have the bumper sticker from them. I met Cane he was nice. The music was awesome in 2017-2018. Once 2019 came in it went downhill. Sadly the pandemic hit Kaplan took over and dumpster fires everywhere. Cane and Corey were not good they should have kept it music intensive in mornings. Elliot is horrible and was not a good choice. I can see why people left. 24K golden and the Kid Laroe don't belong on Alternative Rock stations nor does the same burnt out Sound garden songs or the same Gin Blossoms song they play the same time every day.Brady is a memorable and engaging personality. I’ve liked him since his days at Z100, and his afternoon show was, IMO, the highlight of Alt 92.3’s run. Audacy should have no problem finding uses for his talents within the company (as Mark is surely aware, they are wisely already doing so in his hometown of Detroit).
Other than that… it’s a shame that yet another NYC FM will no longer air a commercial music format, but this was inevitable.
Do you believe Audacy will keep two separate all-news brands on the air in the NYC market long term?
Personally, I cannot see that happening.
Just as forward thinking as we all try to be in media, I just didn’t get how they didn’t realize tough decisions would need to be made in the future lolLong story. That sounds like the case. He alluded that he hasn't been let go.He tracks a few other Alt stations still if I remember correctly. So either they'll shuffle him to one of the other stations, or have him track still based in NYC. Bru, Audacy's CHR afternoon host moved to LA to do afternoons on 97.1 AMP/NOW, and has stayed there voicetracking out since Audacy moved KNX to 97.1
I don't think they can both continue to compete as headline news stations on a relatively equal footing any more.
WCBS-AM has not been "all news" for a long time if we're going to split hairs. Prior to the Mets, they aired the Yankees. On weekends they'd clear CBS News Radio programs instead of news. 1010 WINS is exactly what it advertises: all news, all the time.WCBS is not an all-news station. They also run the NY Mets.
Not necessarily true. KCBS in SF still mentions the AM and has been in a simulcast since 2008.They will NOT mention the AM anymore. It's an Audacy thing. They don't mention it in Los Angeles. They don't mention it in Chicago. They don't mention it in Philadelphia. It will likely be WINS Newsradio 92-3 or something like that.
One tiny vestige is still there: the phone number to report traffic tieups remains 215-724-1060."WINS Newsradio 92.3"
KYW makes no mention of 1060 anymore... just "KYW Newsradio" while occasionally adding 103.9 FM
Z100, apparently. They’re the only station that’s had any success with being an Alt in NYC.A miracle.
WCBS is not an all-news station. They also run the NY Mets.
They must stay as Z100. The day they switch formats is the day I stop supporting radio.Z100, apparently. They’re the only station that’s had any success with being an Alt in NYC.
Believe it or not I heard both WCBS and WINS briefly doing sports pbp a week or two ago. Apparently there was an unusual overflow situation. I was going to jokingly post something here about WINS being All news Most of the Time but decided against it because it didn't last long.WCBS-AM has not been "all news" for a long time if we're going to split hairs. He’s referring to a period in the 90s where pop flatlined and Z100 embraced alt rock to stay relevant. They must stay as Z100. The day they switch formats is the day I stop supporting radio.
Ignoring the new Foo Fighters album was one of the stupidest decisions Audacy made. The Foos are incredibly important as a bridge artist that both older and younger listeners know and like. Their most recent work was quite Alt-friendly. Just ignoring it because of ageism or having guitars or whatever Kaplan’s problem with them was absolutely moronic. Alt needs relevant Bridge artists to connect the generations. Cutting the Foos off just denies a chance to unite the demos. This is what you get for ignoring new Foo Fighters, new Blink 182, new Fall Out Boy, and new Panic! At The Disco and playing the same burnt out 90s songs and only old songs from those artists or that stupid record player from 2014 song with AJR in it.
They are an all news station that breaks format for Mets games and weekend infomercials. That doesn't make them not an all-news station any more than airing Cleveland Guardians games makes WMMS not a rock station.
