ALT 92.3's Two Minute Promise.

I'm a fan of the alternative format done well, and I've been critical of WNYL's whiny, "don't-call-us-rock," alt-pop. But I think the station has been sounding better lately. And I have to admit the 2-minute breaks work for me. I can tolerate them and will personally sit through them when driving around tuned into that station.

I think that the marathon commercial breaks that big broadcasters have been pounding out all these years ended up creating the worst negative stigma for FM radio. It's good to see someone try a better approach, finally.

Down here in Philly, I wish our local Alt station Radio 104.5 would try out the 2 min promise. They play some very lengthy commercial breaks.

Heard this morning on WNYL: "Last week, KTU played 1167 more minutes of commercials than Alt 92.3".

That sounds like a lot, but it averages to about 7 more minutes of commercials per hour.

Why would an alternative station be acknowledging KTU at all? Seems like an odd thing to give them recognition.

The promo I heard mentioned Q104.3, which makes more sense since there's undoubtedly some audience overlap. But I guess they're going after all of the iHeart stations. Of course CBS-FM has a very heavy spotload too, but they'll never acknowledge that.

The old idea that acting like you're the only station in existence is ridiculous in 2019. Just because you hear another brand doesn't mean you immediately turn to it.

They take shots at stations that aren't direct competitors, but brands that you would have to live under a rock to have not heard of. I heard a similar liner directed at Lite-FM that was pretty genius.
