Alt 92.9?

Though how many have an alternative/indie rock format? Could indeed be just a guess. May be a similar format to what they have now but a new slogan/identifier.

WBOS is far from an indie rock/ progressive / alternative now.
If there adopt a new moniker, maybe they actually live up to it.

If it is possible for a dull radio station completely devoid of energy to be any less interesting GM has apparently found it. Research, research, research makes WBOS a dull boy. Great work Cadillac Jack.

Isn't this the same for radio everywhere these days? What station(s) today are "full of energy and interesting"?

Same thing everywhere?

Ken West as well as all of the local Greater Media are running one boring station! For the most part, WBOS has always been mediocre at whatever they do.
Non controversial, is non altermative. Boring! Playlist, Boring! It's a damn jukebox playing the worst songs

Once again, isn't this the same for radio everywhere these days? What station(s) today are "full of energy and interesting"?

What is most disheartening is the fact this move actually got press coverage. Read the release and it sounds like they are describing Spotify not a local radio station. And wait until their advertisers find out they are buried in a ten minute sink hole. Bye, bye.

As for the point about stations that are "full of energy and interesting," I give credit it to both sports talkers, AMP, WAAF (mornings) and HOT. IMO, CBS, Entercom and GM have at least one.

Where have you been?

Howard Stern crossed that bridge a long time ago...playing 12-13-14 minutes of spots in a row sometimes..

WEEI did that as well...when they were number 1 in (almost) every daypart.

The trend is towards longer stopsets and advertisers haven't deserted these station.

And...where did you get this "ten minute" figure? Many stations have 6-7-8 minute stopsets and do fine.

So you are comparing a music intense station to 2 sports talkers and WAAF's morning show that plays no music?

You are making my points Windex.

Stern and WEEI both got away with it because they were talk formats, not music. And the trend is actually not toward stop sets that are 8-10 minutes long...which I heard yesterday on Alt.

And yes I'm responding to the comment about stations full of energy and interesting. There were no parameters placed on that statement, so I voiced my opinion on stations that both play music and do not. You are free to express yours, which you have.

Alt sounds like Spotify with......spots. It will play the meter game but will not be rewarded by advertisers which I assume is why they flipped anyway. Thanks for hearing me out.

So you are comparing a music intensive ALT presentation with talk formats.....and CHR and Rythmic AC?

You did not hear a 10 minute stop set as you stated...how you came up with that number...who knows!

The point about Stern and WEEI is that advertisers did not flee as you stated because of the long stopset.

If it "plays the meter game"....then it will get ratings. If it gets ratings, it will be rewarded by advertisers.

And, yes, the trend has been towards less and longer stopsets. Stations are playing longer and fewer stopsets than ever before.

So, why did you "give it up"?

I'm just rendering opinions like everyone else here but let me take a stab at answering.

I should have said 10 UNIT stop set. I have no idea if it was 10 minutes but I did make note of the number of units because of the music guarantee. I was curious.
Advertisers did not flee WEEI and Stern in the day because they had no viable options (to reach those listeners). Those days are over. Everyone has competition now.
Yes, if Alt gets ratings it will attract agency and national business but fewer local dollars because local advertisers want results not GRP's.
Stop sets are shorter than they were five years ago. That's simply a function of supply and demand. Demand is down since 2008.
I gave it up because I wasn't good enough to make the cut. I miss radio every day and participate vicariously here.

Points taken. Questions answered. Back to work.

And by the way, are you paying for a checking account that used to be free? Well, Greater Media has changed the rules on streaming! You now have to register with their web site before you can listen to their station streams! This is bullshit!
