AM 1260 From Morman To Catholic?

Since Immaculate Heart Broadcasting is buying the 1260 AM frequency. Is it too late to resurface the KYA call letters? What are the rules for reviving 3-letter calls?

It's not too late for Immaculate Heart since they can ask for a waiver to recover the call KYA call letters.
The reason they can ask for a waiver is that 1260 Khz. in San Francisco is where they originated. No other station can lay any claim to KYA.

If 1260 Khz. becomes KYA we still cannot expect them to play any 50s 60s or 70s favorites.

The rules regarding 3-letter calls is that you cannot have them. It can only be by waiver as KHJ did in Los Angeles.

The original KYA with religion everyday!

No, they can not. Only the licensee who gave up the three-letter calls can recover them. If it has changed hands, the calls are lost forever.

Nor can IH. The call is lost to them, forever, per FCC administrative rules.

And by now the FCc knows they were mislead on that request for waiver.

Nostalgia is a nice thing, but why would anybody care that a religious station has heritage call letters? Do you care that 1610 is KDIA? That station has no relation to the great soul station 1310 KDIA of the 60s and 70s. 1260 will have no relation to "the Boss of the Bay."

If you need a nostalgia fix, listen to a classic aircheck on the Bay Area Radio Museum or ReelRadio.com.
