AM 1470

It didn't get blown away but the tower base is under water. I saw a photo on another radio web site that said it was operational but only radiating about 100w.

dwtpa97,

Thanks for the clips. Nice trip down memory lane!

Isn't Genesis in the process of moving their transmitter site for 1470? I heard that they're looking for a new place to put their tower because they have to vacate the Egypt Lake site.

Still over on CR95 far as I know but yes, they do have to vacate that site. Egypt Lake is where they have their CP for, get this, a 750 watt daytime power site (down from 5000 watts!) and 800 watts nighttime (UP from 500 watts) but thats been in the wind for some time. I have heard they are looking at other sites to diplex onto.

Knoxbob, send the link to that picture if you can.

Ooops... my bad... then who is on those towers out at Egypt Lake?

I think diplexing sounds like a better idea than 750 watt days... I bet a lot of stations are wary about getting involved with Genesis. They do have a penchant for ripping other people's clients.

...and Bruce probably isn't looking forward to signing a non-compete...

Do you think anyone trusts Bruce? Hasn't he burned all of his bridges?

responding to both Cedric and The Bishop: any station looking to allow another station to duplex onto their stick is looking at a very long term relationship. A lot of engineering, time, and MONEY is involved in filters and changes to the owners actual physical plant. This is not just like co-locating a couple of FM antennas on the same stick, more like a master FM antenna scenario where everybody has a stake. But in this case you have the master antenna owner and the guy diplexing onto it is just a renter. Getting him off if there is a problem (read no rent payments) may be a little more complicated!

Cedric, as for Egypt Lake, I think it is WTMP-AM 3 tower directional there.

I thought WTMP was down by the Port.

WTMP was down by crosstown expressway until mid 90s when they reached some agreement with the old WDAE 1250 at Egypt lake to add a 3rd tower to WDAE's two tower array, and diplex with them until 1250 moved to a new site.

Seriously???!!!! Who the hell listens to AM radio anymore? 14 who??? what, where, WHy????

I can get AM 1470 here in the north florida big bend but now i dont since u guys start talking about thier singal issues now for WMGG-AM 1470. I f***ing love AM radio. If it wasn't for AM radio, I'd be homeless.
Me, too!

Politics hate it.

I don't care for the Rush Limbaugh clones, but I'd still rather listen to the AM side. The music FM's around here are obnoxious, and 88.5 plays too much folk music. The only time I ever flip over to FM anymore is to listen to Jazz at night on NPR.

I've been digging Radio Rebelde 530 out of Havana... been using that for background music at home lately. As for 1470, I still can't hear it at my house in St. Pete.
