AM Frequency of the week - 1200 Khz

1200 here is one of our deadest frequencies. WMIR Atlantic Beach (near Myrtle Beach) comes in daytime, but WOAI comes in at night, usually weak (much different compared to just a couple hundred miles S in GA or the FL peninsula), and few others come in.

From St. Petersburg, daytime is WINK 1200, but just barely, at night WOAI, San Antonio is stronger at night than WINK is during the day.

As far as WINK during the day, if I'm on the bayfront or on the Gulf or within 3/4 mile of the water the signal is fairly listenable in the car, much further inland (north central St. Pete) even in a car, it's just barely there, not strong enough to i.d.

Inside if I make sure the radio is away from the TV and computer, I can pick it WINK on the Sangean PR-D5 but only a dx'er would bother to listen, since the reception is so poor.

Since WRTO Chicago built new towers, their signal pushes a bit further into Lake County Indiana at night. I hear them loud & clear during the day, & at local sunset, WOAI does start to stomp on WRTO, but even after San Antonio sunset, when WRTO switches to their night pattern, I can still hear WRTO more than I used to. I lose some of the signal around Merrillville & around Hobart. They can't go too far into Indiana in order to protect WOWO Fort Wayne on 1190. When they were at their old site, they were only at 1kw at night. Since they were forced off their old site, the new site is only 6 towers (4 used for day), whereas the old site was 8 (4 used for day), & they're at 4.5kw at night, & 20kw during the day (10kw day on the old site). Unless I get into Crown Point, Hobart, or outside of Lake County Indiana, I don't hear WOAI too well (used to lose WRTO's signal once I got out of Hammond on the old site).

ISTR catching 1260 Edmonton once around 3:30pm, but that had to be near a wintertime when things were already dark in Edmonton.

Roger dodger, I remember those cold Edmonton days, with their 3:15pm sunsets :-\ . Sadly, while I lived out there, I didn't have the inclination (or resources) for DXing, which should be quite interesting from there, given those long winter nights.

Back OT. CFGO Ottawa plays a role, but in the evenings, especially during critical hours, there's lots of stuff thrown in there, including WTLA and WOAI.

1200 AM in Vermilion is:

Daytime: WCHB/Detroit with a fairly moderate signal with an Urban News Format.
Nighttime: WOAI "NewsRadio 1200"/San Antonio, TX with a weak to moderate signal with some other stations under it.

Last night I thought I heard talk on 1200 last night, I don't know if it's WOAI because KYAA blasting in from Vallejo

Everytime I hear a weak signal, KYAA has too boom in at the same time..why did FCC allow this??

From Englewood FL a good WINK- Ft Myers- about 30 mi : at night a very strong WOAI on my old GE am fm 8 track not many fades at all. Great AM tuner.

Right now in Vermilion, OH I'm getting 'Shine 1200' WEMM/Huntington, WV with a southern gospel format. I'm pretty sure they are still on either day or critical hours power unless I'm getting 9W from 200 miles away

From NE NC car radio. Days, nothing heard on 1200. Critical hours WRKK Hughesville, PA; WXKS Newton - Boston, MA; WKST New Castle, PA; WXIT Blowing Rock, NC.
On my Grundig portable, at night I hear WOAI San Antonio, TX with WPHT nulled. That is about 1500 miles and the farthest regular station for me with simple equipment.

For what difference it might make, WEMM has post-sunset authority. That's assuming they're actually using it, of course.

Their allowed power this month for the two hours after sunset is just a little more than the 9-watt nighttime level: http://licensing.fcc.gov/cgi-bin/prod/cdbs/forms/prod/getimportletter_exh.cgi?import_letter_id=3226

The data shown in the link shows the post-sunset authority for when they were still on 1470. Is it the same now that they're on 1200?

Oops, you're right, I overlooked that. So no, they don't have PSSA om 1200.
