Funny, you should mention WAKR. Back in he early 1960's, WAKR was a nightly signal in Indianapolis. They had top 40 format, and a very good evening dj.gr8oldies said:WAKR really gets out; it was regular at night in Dayton and I've heard it West of Indianapolis. Here in the Knoxville area I heard WAIK in Galesburg IL last night presumably on its 5KW day power, not 55 watts.

There's another 1590 right here in Monroe County, WASB Brockport, about 20 miles west of me, but they have a deep null to the east and a transmitter site that's deteriorated into near-uselessness. WASB is actually a pretty deep DX catch for me here. I used to hear a third upstate NY 1590, WEHH Elmira Heighs-Horseheads (about 90 miles south) better than WASB, but WEHH moved to 1600 a few years ago.
WAKR owns the frequency at night here.

In the daytime, it's WPWA from Aston PA(in Chester County). At night, 1590 is usually a mess,
including WPWA and WQQW from Connecticut.

A rather puny WCGO daytime. Nighttime used to regularly be WAKR around here, but now it's a total mess.
