When I DXed from NE Ohio in the 60's, WKWF was not only my first FL station, it was a frequent visitor on 1600.

Wow...almost every other station on 1600 must have been a daytimer. But at least were KATZ and WWRL on most or all night then???
 
Day and night, splatter from local first adjacent WAKR/1590 Akron.

I wonder what folks up on Lake Erie away from WAKR's night pattern are getting...up to the east, are they getting WWRL? Buck is to the west and getting nothing substantial.
 
WKWF is freaky for its miniscule power. I remember when I was in IRCA that someone in TN caught it....I'm sure the Finns on their DXpeditions have heard it.

Even though 500 watts, the antenna is non directional.

In High Bridge NJ, WWRL New York is alone during the day, not real strong. WHOL Allentown PA is nowhere to be found, even though I get every other Lehigh Valley AM with no problem. RL is the night dominant too with others in the mix.
 
I used to get WCGO Chicago Heights, IL from Gary, IN. Since Kovas silenced this station along with WMCW Harvard, IL, & 1580 WKKD Aurora, IL, they boosted the signal of 1590 WONX Evanston, & move the WCGO call letters to 1590. Now, I hear splatter on 1600 during the day, & nothing at night.

All WKWF receptions I remember were in early evening... a few hours after Sunset. The Jones log from then lists Riviera Beach, Cedar Rapids (major signal), Montgomery, Rockville (MD), Brookline, Ann Arbor, Muskegon, St Louis, New York, Charlotte, Reidsville, Niagara Falls (10 kw) as all being on at night if just the stations in the East and Midwest are counted. Muskegon and Rockville were very dominant in NE Ohio, with all the rest DXable at some moment.

The real issue is that 1600 is nearly a short-wave frequency. It may be the only regional channel where I either heard or verified every full time station licensed by the FCC.

My best domestic on 1600 was KWOW in Pomona, with 500 watts... verified, and the card is on my personal DX page.
