AM Station Just Sold In Orlando

Hey everyone...

I just heard through the grapevine that an AM station was sold in the market.

My source wouldn't tell me which one or who purchased it.

Anyone have any info???

WRLZ-AM 1270 Eatonville is the station listed for sale. The asking price is $5.9 million and is listed with Doyle Hadden & Associates. As parttimer suggested, this may be the Orlando AM facility in question.

Wonder if there will be a format change?
??? That would be cool if that happened.

That is about 5 times what it is worth. It was sold last in 1995 for less than $400 k out of receivership. Today, in the current state of AM, it can't be worth more than $1.25 million unless it sits on some really valuable land.

It's not 1270am.

I know that for a fact...

Let's move on to other possibilities...

There are a total of 21 AM signals that serve Orlando, so there are your possibilities... ALL 21 of them!!!

I have a few guesses. One of the spanish language ams, one of the salem ams or radio disney. Those are the only candidates i can think of. Unless rama sold one? HMMMM this is very interesting. I guess time will tell. I highly doubt that 540, 580, 740 or 810 were sold.

Here is what I'd love to see an am in this market do. I'd love to hear an am play oldies. When 810 was true oldies that was the only station I listened to. I think I'm one of very few people my age that would love this. I wished I was around to hear 540 wgto. I wished I was alive in the 70s to hear all the am top 40s and the battles they had. Thank god for the internet and old air checks :). Play stuff sunny does not touch and be live and local. Heck, even true oldies would be good in this market again. I have to DX wjbq 106.3 from spring hill to hear true oldies or listen on the iPhone. I'm 24 and I honestly can't stand most of the new music radio plays.

Would it be wise for Radio Disney to sell 990AM?

What about Big 810AM? That station was good when it was True Oldies.

I wouldn't rule out WDBO-AM.

Whatever the frequency, if I had True Oldies on the dial (AM or FM) in Orlando again, I'd be happier.
And I'm 31 years old.

Mr. Tillery,

Thanks for narrowing it down for us! LOL!

It is not 810, 1270, 1190, or 1080. All of these are way too overpriced even for an idiot to overpay for.

It's also not any of the Clear Channel or Cox AM stations either. This I have pretty much confirmed.

So I guess that takes a few more off the board.

I don't think it is 990am because it's very difficult to sell with a high and long lease at the Cox tower site in Pine Hills.

Hmmmmm....

I am guessing Rama. They have two stations silent now - 1410 and 1580 - so they may be looking to whittle the station list down a little.

1410 Leesburg? Again? Can nobody persevere with that station? <shrug> (I live near Miami.)

cd

Right. 990 may not be a good candidate. After all, we do have disney in this area. :p The more I think of it, the more I lean toward rama. I have noticed that wdbo is saying 580 less and less. Heck, half of the people on that station just say 96.5. Again, I would say 580 is out of the question. I see no reason for cox to sell it. Cox doing sports? ??? I can't remember if it was on this board or another but someone said something about cox doing sports. I don't see that happening. Orlando is not a good sports market. The only professional team we have are the magic. It's pretty amazing we manage to have two sports stations. I'm sure a lot of you would agree with me that 1080 has a pretty crap signal. I know there are worse signals in this market but 1080 is defanatly not a blowtorch by any means. Again, I think that would be a bad move for cox to do sports. Sorry for the rambling. I guess we'll see what happens :).

But, the real question is: would you go out and spend some of your fiat federal reserve notes for an HD receiver if it were on 24/7 and placed a solid signal throughout your area of travel...to be ;D ???

So anything new on this? I know this was just a few months back. I guess not.
