Amp Radio Advertising Campaign

Any word out there yet as to when CBS will start advertising Amp radio? Hope they do a huge advertising campaign like 100.3 The Sound did.

Once this gets out on the street, I bet they'll give KIIS a run for their money. We all know KIIS has bought off their so called "competitors" before (103.1 FM twice), but this time they're screwed...ain't no way they can buy off CBS...haha. This will be good!

Why would AMP even have a chance against an established station? KIIS has Ryan Seacreast in the morning too. I don't even see AMP as a contender at this point.

Couldn't agree more. :D

Your comment reminds me of when KLSX started classic rock. I thought "Oh boy, another KLOS." And KIIS is such an institution I would think every spellcheck would accept kiis as an acceptable spell variation of kiss. ;D

KIIS has been there for years and everyone knows what they're getting, same as KLOS, KRTH, KOST and KROQ.

KLSX only broke from its also-ran status by doing something original. Seriously, how many knock-off stations have ever succeded? 8)

I guess that no company should ever introduce a new product as no one would ever buy it. Based on your assumption, the public is so stuck on what they've been using, they'd never switch.

AMP is new, it's hip, it's professional/major market sounding, it's playing the hits of Southern California, it's attaching some new technology to itself and they had a year already to test parts of it out... Don't underestimate the company or who is programming it. Ryan Seacrest is not the end all of morning men (?) and can be dethroned. KIIS is as vulnerable as any radio station. AMP may not topple KIIS but it's going to do damage. Once you are on top, you've only got one way go. AMP does have a better chance of competing against KIIS than any other new competitor in nearly a 1/4 of a century. If they do this station right, so far so good, it's going to be one hell of a battle in Los Angeles radio.

That reminds me of Scott Shannon's "Worst to First Z100" in NYC in the 80s. Took 'em less than three months.

But like KIIS in late 1982, they really had next to no CHR competition. This is going to be more tough.

So Glenn, what is your new position at the station?

Don't forget Shannon's "Pirate Radio" in L-A. Went from worst to worse. Took 'em nowhere. ;D

Scott left Pirate Radio with a 2.7 12+ ... bet a lot of people with Mt. Wilson sticks in L.A. would like to have that.

And peaked with a share most L.A. stations will never see.

It should be somewhat easy for CBS to advertise AMP on Billboards. As CBS owns a big chunk of outdoor advertising! Clear Channel can counter with their outdoor advertising billboards as well. We will have an all out radio AND billboard war!

They can also heavily utilize CBS2 and The CW

So who will do mornings on AMP Radio along with the rest of the day? Not sure where CBS Radio would find their main person for mornings to go up with Ryan maybe someone from MTV. I know who they could maybe use but I am not sure if he can do it as he works for another network on TV. I say Carson Daily former host of TRL back on MTV who now has Last Call on NBC. He would do well against Ryan I think. Carson In The Morning 97.1 AMP Radio. lol

The CW is Tribune in Los Angeles. CBS 2 and KCAL 9 is what you mean. KCAL 9 is more male oriented with the Lakers and Dodgers plus a heavy dose of local news so that will be of little help.

MY point is that AMP has to bring something for me to believe in the station. CBS just advertsing won't hurt KIIS. Right now AMP doesn't have the any ratings, no morning show while KIIS is huge in the ratings and has Seacrest in the morning.

"AMP is new, it's hip, it's professional/major market sounding, it's playing the hits of Southern California, it's attaching some new technology to itself" - This sounds like the typical corporate BS. How is AMP more of a new, hip and pro station than KIIS? And what is this new techonogy?

What is this new technology? WHAT is this new technology?!

They are streaming live on-line AND
Broadcasting in STEREO!

Now THAT is NEW technology :D

(They also have a web site)

Their website is really a weblog using Wordpress. I would consider it an up-and-coming alternative to standard HTML website design. Let's not forget the music videos and associated artist content added to their site.

They are using social networking sites such as Twitter and Facebook. They have obviously been reading Jerry Del Colliano's columns. He has written many times that stations must get more in touch with listeners. I see this as THE station that may follow through with his suggestions.

You obviously weren't paying attention to KLSX when it was talk. The every host had their own myspace and facebook account. They shot bits such as FHF behind the mic and Danny Bonaduce Smoke/Boxing breaks that they hosted on Youtube and 971fmtalk.com. The online stream was the second most listened to for CBS Radio, right behind WFAN (about 26 million streaming minutes a week.) They had vdeo webcasts from the studio regularly, including the final Friday from 6a to 5p, which you can still see at Stickam.

If they kept the amazing web team that the old format had, then yeah, they might make great use of their web tools. But they should at least get the /wordpress out of their URL.

I just saw one of AMP's billboards for the first time today (Saturday). On a CBS billboard. A big one saying, "The New AMP 97.1" with Justin Timberlake's picture and "commercial free, 10,000 songs in a row." A good eye-catcher but I thought, they'll have to revise that "commercial free" part in about 3 weeks unless they decide to extend it beyond 10,000.
