AMP Radio Is Coming to New York

No CHR in it's right mind is going to add dance when there's no indication that people want it;

A dance formatted station in Houston (Party 93.3) just flipped formats because it was an abysmal #21 in the PPM ratings. Face it, the Zeitgeist just isn't right in these times for dance music!

Keep in mind that Party 93.3 was on a rimshot signal, in addition to being heavily targeted toward hispanics.

And since we are talking Houston in here, KPTY is more rhythmic in nature than current dance; yes they do play some dance cuts, but more of Flo Rida, Akon, Chris Brown, Young Jeezy, etc. Los Angeles? It's a rhythmic market but more urban in nature than dance music oriented.

Since we are talking Houston...The Party is over. KPTY has switched to La Buena! Now the REAL Party is at Hot 95.7 FM ;) We added Kid Cudi on Hot and the new Black Eyed Peas which is very LMFAO if you ask me. We were the first Top 40 in Houston to break September. While we aren't a Pulse or dance leaning Top 40, we are playing what the market wants whether it's dance, pop, hip-hop, etc. I believe that is why we are beating KRBE in their core demo 18-34.

They weren't dance formatted the last couple of months. They were actually going after KBXX 97.9

riddler, quick question

i love hot 957, but will you guys be back to mixing on the weekends again?? just wonderin

back to the amp topic, id say why not give it a try in NY. you dont know unless you try

I'm guessing Riddler will end up mixing for Amp Radio 92.3 when & if it comes?

I don't believe Party 93.3 was a dance format at all. Nonetheless Houston has as much in common with dance music as New York to Tammy Wynett.

I really don't think "AMP Radio" would kill off Pulse 87. In a backhanded way, if an AMP plays some dance music that is on Pulse's list, it may actually HELP! :)

The one thing about the Pulse 87 audience is that they mainly want current based rhythmic (dance) music being played on there and very little outside of that. Pulse fans don't necessarily want to hear Taylor Swift, All American Rejects, The Veronicas, Flo Rida (unless it's a remix), Kelly Clarkson, etc. And Z-100 is certainly not playing Flanders, Nicola Fasano, Kim Leoni, and unless I'm mistaken while they do play Lady Gaga, it's the standard version...not a remix.

Basically if Amp does add a few (keyword: a few) current based dance tracks that Z isn't playing (nor 'KTU) but Pulse IS doing, that could get the younger demos into dance music and figure, hey Amp is doing this....what could Pulse be doing since Pulse does go deeper into dance and would have material that the Pulse audience wants, but not necessarily work on an "Amp".

Z-100 could never really do that because they have to "protect" 'KTU's base unless a dance track is SO big, such as when David Guetta/Chris Willis had "Love Is Gone" on rotation, that it could not be ignored. Yet Z-100 has been such a strong station all these years with no DIRECT competition that in order to compete, something different has to happen. And as long as Z doesn't touch current based dance all that much, that is where an Amp could get in. But at the same time still keep to a CHR identity but add a few dance tracks. To that, it won't knock Pulse out because the audience for Amp would still want the CHR that Z-100 does. You're just giving them a little more :)

NOT EVEN HOT 97 COULD IGNORE "Love is Gone". They even spun it.
