By the way how is AMP doing? Guess they aren't going to move into a bigger building in South Bend, they were suppose to move in September...how can one company be so cheap..

Fort Wayne's WBTU and Sunny are now using satelite feeds from Waitt Radio Networks.
How sad. I thought WBTU was a heritage station?
Cheaptistic being cheap again!
 ??? :p :-[ :'( :-\

I had to register a name onto Radio Info in order to post on this topic. When I was at AMP South Bend, they kept talking moving and I never believed it. That would require them to spend money. I'm sure rather than spending the money to move, some of the higher ups opted to get a nice flat screen TV, or a trip to Europe or a car or a house. AMP is, without a doubt, the most miserable place I have ever worked at. There were many, many good people I met while there... but a lot of the management are liars and are incompetent. For a group that runs radio stations, they know surprisingly little about RADIO.

It bothers me when people on this boards trash the folks that WORK for AMP. Last I checked, a lot of the folks that AMP raked over the coals landed on their feet. There have been some nice talent move through there. Todd Chance and Tommy Frank, both very successful in Saginaw, Brad King at a station in Kansas City, AJ (my predecessor) is an APD in Salt Lake City for Clear Channel. I landed a morning show gig in Dallas/Fort Worth. Some of us needed to go through AMP to get better gigs. I'm sure I forgot some people. Lord knows, there have been enough people through there. It takes big owners to bully a bunch of kids in their first big radio jobs. If any of us had any money to bring about legal action, we could have. I certainly thought of it.

I pray that Art's lack of knowledge about radio makes him lose his ass financially. It's called karma. He screwed over A LOT of employees and he and his family deserve to go through the same thing. And I dare the Angottis to prove to me I'm lying. I can only pray he sells off to a company that gives a damn about the product. It's a great disservice to the employees and listeners in the markets they own in.

I don't intend to post again. Good luck AMP refugees. Out.

BERNIE MACK

I have never worked for AMP, but I am not a fan of that company. And I have worked for my share of AMP type "broadcasters".

When I do post something about AMP, my comments are aimed at management rather than the hard working staff that work their butts off for unappreciative owners and managers.

I can't speak for everyone, but I'm sure most people feel the same way I do.

Couldn't agree with Bernie Mack more, he took the words right out of my mouth. I remember a dj they brought in from Florida I think, she was all settled in and they let her go....nice huh! They are know for doing this, all I can say is people out there, watch your backs.

You forgot to mention AJ's wife, she was also employed there...there are so many you sort of lose count, but the people still work for them...must really need the money..remember what goes around comes around ;)

Let us NOT forget the other AMP markets as well...Lafayette, Bloomington and Fort Wayne. Lafayette letting Dana go, now running 4 stations with 5 people (Gaven Todd, Stephanie Patterson, Scottie Blades, Mike Warner and Steve (?)). Fort Wayne with 3 people on 2 stations in market 104 (Kenny Edwards, Dale Christopher and a new girl in AM Drive).

In Fort Wayne alone, they've shown at least 10 on air people the door over the past 3 years alone, including Ron Gregory, Jay Michaels (2x), JJ Davis (3x), Dave Michaels, Chevy Smith, Guy Forrest, Bill McCubby, and Ken Knapp just to name a few.

These people are working HARD and go into work every day expecting to get fired, because that IS the AMP way. 1 person to do 3 or 4 people work and the upper management takes all the rewards.

NEVER slam the people that work for AMP...for the most part, they do NOT know what they're getting into when they sign on. A rosy picture is painted of successful stations, and then once you're there, you see the cancer that is eating the place alive. And then the only option (thanks to non-competes) is to move away.

From a competitors point of view, Amp should stay the way it is, because they are so easy to beat...and so predictable. From a jocks point of view, Bernie was right...someone who knows what they are doing needs to come in and fix the place.

You know...if Art would just stay away - ahhh, wishful thinking...

For the record Jay Michaels left on his own the 2nd time and Dave Michaels also left on his own.

Im Surprise that they have tried to take WAZY into sataliette ville again

I'm sure if there was a 24/7 network that did CHR, they'd be on it. They're already using as many satellite resources as they can through the likes of Superadio (Z carries "Romeo's Playhouse" in the overnight hours and "Open House Party" on the weekends).

It's a shame to hear about WBTU. Though Waitt radio does a fairly decent job at making themselves sound as local as possible, it's still a tough sell when you've got a fierce competitor in your backyard. Good news for K105, bad news for WBTU, I suppose.

As for knocking the talent instead of knocking the company's ways, that's actually a very good point that often gets overlooked on this board. There are many great people who have and are still doing a great job for them from an on-air and programming standpoint. Many are doing all they can, given the limited resourses they have, to get the job done. From what I understand, the downside is Art expects immediate results, but from the looks of it, isn't willing to flip the bill to get it done and when he does, he expects the results to be instantaneous. It simply doesn't work that way in radio, and it's a shame that many great programmers, DJs, etc. have come into AMP hoping to turn things around and achieve some degree of success with their respective stations only to be thrown out after their first or second book (or simply get tired of the situation). It has to be tough walking on such a thin line at all times. No wonder so many negative vibes have come from those who used to work for AMP.

It always comes down to "The Management." I don't think that anyone on these boards is knocking the employees. They simply do what the management demands. Look at the stations that do well over a long period of time. Those are the management teams that "get it."

As a former competitor....we LOVED ART!!!!

You know he'll stick his hands where they don't belong and screw up anything good....You also know that anytime a station does well...Art will gut the staff and force the station back down.

Everyone knows he is an idiot...except him and his investors/chronies....he must be able to talk a great game

Show me a successful AMP station...in a year I'll show you an AMP loser

I also don't mean to knock AMP employees...per say....but most of them know exactly what they are getting into...and it isn't worth it...just to work in radio...cause that ain't radio.

I would say that being the DJ at a Shoe Carnival is a better way to "stay in the biz" than work for AMP.

I am not the only one who thinks that way....and I never personally worked there...just friends.

Not the ones I saw they treat men like heels and they have no soul! Put that pun in the book, now!

You definately must work in radio then! mkay is that you?

Having scrolled through the royal slagging that AMP gets on this site on a daily basis, I don't think they are alone on the trash heap for hiring and firing practices.

Some are just more upfront about it and don't get splattered when it hits the fan.

And if you were in Lafayette and wanted to be on-the-air and AMP were the only station smart enough to put you on and give you a salary you deserved, believe me, you'd FIND a way to say nice things about them and shut up and do your job.

Having said that, if you were mistreated by them and moved on to a bigger and better way of life, bless you.

If you've never worked for them, keep scrolling and go into your next gig with eyes wide open using AMP as a template if that's what helps you in your next job.

Some companies find a lovely balance between doing big business and encouraging/nuturing talent while delivering an entertaining product to listeners.
Other companies just do big business. Some do neither.
Some companies thrive as a complete mystery not providing much of anything listenable.

I'm not trying to be "Mr. Olive Branch", but you could easily substitute "AMP" with "the last company/the first company I worked for" in these stories.
