AMP's line up?

Any speculations of the air-personalities CBS is lining up? Will St.John voice track from SF. As he did for CC on MY104.3. Now that he is with CBS in SF he just may be on their radar.

Anyone else that is desrving to take to the 97.1 airwaves. Voice tracked or local. Any ideas?

What about Dave Morales, currently doing pm drive on CBS' chr station in Houston? Morales knows the market, having worked afternoons at Power 106 years ago.

What's truly sad is that you're mentioning voice tracking like it's a normal everyday thing. Guess it is now days but it's jarring to see it in a post like it's no big deal. In market #2 it's ridiculous that there is ANY voice tracking at all beside with the mony that CBS is saving with this new format they should be able to hire "live" jocks. It's LA for %#@& sake, and please no more St. John.

I wholeheartedly agree. Live on air personalities should be the norm. BUT Voice Tracking has become another avenue that broadcasters utilize to save money. In the current economy, I am sure it will be a growing segment of Owners and Program Directors. On day we the listeners may not even know if the person we are listening is taped, live or coming from Mississippi, Arkansas or Minnesota.

Why are you guys speculating on jocks?

As far as I know, AMP is planning on being the Jack FM of CHR...jockless forever..

Which brings up the question of why someone would choose AMP FM over KIIS..they play the same songs...they'll soon be playing commercials. Are the jocks on KIIS really that much of a tune-out that CBS thinks they have any chance of taking more than a share or two of the CHR audience in Los Angeles? I think not.

Consider that CBS also has the baggage of paying off Tom Leykis and all the other contracts. It's going to take years before they even break even on this deal. KLSX was billing some pretty big numbers. If AMP can equal what they were bringing in, it'll still be years before this thing breaks even. Yes, PPM likes CHR better, but despite that, KLSX was still bringing in the $$ with talk.

Good luck on this one. It may have worked in Houston (but WITH jocks from the start) but KRBE was ripe for the picking. KIIS is not.

Who was the brainiac behind this one anyway?

Having spent the past week listening to KIIS and KLSX, I have to say, the processing on AMP is incredible. KIIS sounds flat.

put the boomer joe servantez on amp.amp sounds a bit like groove radio and Power 106.
Having heard his return on Movin and how awful he was, I hope we never hear him in L.A. radio again.

Ir took you a week? I certainly agree as I posted in the first few hours of AMP. KIIS sounds distorted (to me) on the high end. KIIS use to have the best processing I've ever heard but in the last few years it really has been terrible. AMP has some of the best processing I've ever heard.

Someone else said that KIIS hasn't had good processing since the mid to late 80s. The only thing I can think of is that KIIS was using analog processing until the late 80s and then went digital. Digital processing is a different bird from analog. It's much harder to get right. If it's not right, it sounds like KIIS.

The point of AMP is not to beat KIIS. The Point is to shave some points off of KIIS's numbers to help sales for the CBS cluster.

Right...to fragment the 'cash cow' like 98.7 and KROQ.

I'd love to hear Big Watusi back on the air. Radio needs talent like his again.
Sadly, CBS radio will give everyone a big automationtusi a.k.a. jukeboxtusi.

So has CBS Radio been looking for DJS for Amp Radio? I see they found someone for the new 92.3 Now FM New York. I have not seen any word that Amp has found any DJS and plus AMP will soon be done with their 10,000 songs in a row.

I say bring back Jay Thomas for Mornings, and Mucho Morales in the Afternoon. Two
great Jocks from the 'ol Power 106 days. True, that they might be a bit older now.But
I think they still be a good fit into Amp's new format.
And I do believe that Jay would be a big Monkey on Ryan Seacrest shoulders. The same way that
he put the squeeze on Rick Dees at KIIS-FM.

Jay Thomas' show was a bunch of rehashed bits that were put in rotation like a top 40 playlist. They played as much as 3 times over two days. Mucho is a good guy and a great jock. AMP is going to need 20 or early 30 year old jocks that can live the AMP lifestyle. Anyone who hits 40 needs to remove themselves from a top 40 station before they are removed. They just can't relate no matter how good they are.

Jay Thomas? I'm 28 and just barely remember his days at Power. I'm at the upper end of the demo, and anyone younger than me is far less likely to remember him, or that CBS sitcom he had after "Murphy Brown".

I'm sure he is NY based, but I always thought Carlos Santos, VJ at MTV Tr3s, would make an excellent choice for morning radio in LA. He is younger than Seacrest, multi-lingual, and probably knows most of the music.

I concur with that. One example, "Rick Dees".
