that is the point. they did find a qualified candidate and that is who you are hearing.
is it somewhat a gamble? sure. if it works and the ratings go up, what say you? if they go down, then it did not work...but I for one, admire them for trying it. AND, i've listened...and I don't know what your point about "generic" is...she has more content than ANY other station in midday.
Amy B content or KSCS content? Because if you're paying attention, you'll hear that they are NOT the same.
Back in the day did you ever mention, oh I don't know, your little buddy Ron? Did he do the same? Sure Dorsey can plug Amy, can she do the same?
I haven't listened a lot, but in what little I've caught of her, I'm hearing 'content' all right. What I'm not hearing is her doing any positioning of KSCS. Her mentioning the call letters in her content, etc. etc..
That's the downside of sat-delivered content. It's stripped of much of what people supposedly want, "live and local".
When the acetylene tanks start exploding skyward, what do you think Amy will be talking about? When the tanker truck blows up and shuts down a highway, what do you think Amy will be talking about?
When the Amber alert goes off and we're all looking for that lost kid, what will Amy be talking about?
Her trailer? Her one good eye? the latest gossip from Nashville?
I don't have a problem with a station airing satellite content. I just have a real hard time taking them seriously as a factor in the #5 market in the country. It's basically admitting that you don't have the talent in house, or the wherewithal to go out and get it (or pay what it takes to get it) to be a serious contender.
And if I was KSCS, trailing KPLX by something like 2 full shares, I'm not sure I'd be making moves that can (and WILL) be construed as half-assing a major daypart.
And all that doesn't even touch on 2 major items. My homeboy who dissects the book for fun tells me that she was trending down. Not just month to month, but book to book. Down. Significantly. Like across the board, no longer near as popular as she was down...Again, if it was an isolated month, fine. If it's significant audience erosion, why do you pick up someone who was failing at your main competitor?
#2- KPLX's audience a year ago was much younger (target wise) than what they're currently going for (it's obvious from their music mix- they've gotten older and more conservative/safer (country music wise), some of that can be written off to lack of product from Nashville)..KSCS's audience is MUCH MUCH older. KPLX shows up decently 25-54. Last I checked, KSCS was lucky to make the top 15 25-54. So while maybe she draws in some of that 25-54. Is it at the cost of the 35 or 45+, who aren't going to get her 'schtick' so much???
I see a real possibility that Amy boosts the 25-54 numbers. And devestates the overall 12+ numbers...can you say shooting yourself in the foot? Or in your one good eye?
