Analyzing Arbitron Ratings

GK, your post indicates that you're either new to the board or just yankin' the regulars' chains. ;) If anything, posters here have taken analyzing the 12+ ratings for Buffalo and Rochester to an extreme. Wait until the Spring trends and/or book are released. The posts here will make the Examiner's analysis pale by comparison. The Winter trends for Buffalo appear to have been embargoed; had they not, there would be an abundance of analysis and opinions.

An extreme? Understatement. :D
I still contend they don't mean much for reality...sales gimmick only. (and a thorn in a good programmers backside )
One step further... I know a present Diary holder in Maine (yeah Facebook) that says they have taken to free doughnuts instead of the $1.00 (or more) incentive. ??? (Do I smell a MAJOR promotional gimmick in the works here. ;) Goes like this: Bring in your recently received "listening reponse" form...and we'll double your FREE donut order...courtesy of WXXX. Or the creative/sales department can tie it in somehow! :D

HDBG

disclaimer: there is no actual proof that this person holds the Diary...however it was mentioned by name...you decide.

I read the blog post cited by the OP...

Maybe I'm a bit sensitive to this but I don't think taking a table full of data and converting it into narrative sentences meets my definition of "analysis".

I see maybe one sentence of "why," namely:

Hispanic WSKQ also moved up nicely, perhaps indicating that Arbitron has found a way to measure the minority audience a little more fairly

as opposed to a whole lot of sentences describing "what."
