Ancient Modulation

You didn't seem to comprehend his point.

WEEI is doing better on FM reaching more people than they did on AM.

Whether or not they "beat" 98.5 is not the point. They immediately picked up more bodies and more people with their move to FM.

Are you trying to describe the "cume"? You might consider TSL as a potential factor also. January'11 Book shows WEEI-AM in 8th place with a 4.0 and cume of 505,500. WBZ FM was 13th with a 3.2 and a cume of 509,000. November '10 had WEEI AM at a 4.2 and a cume of 550,700 and WBZ FM at 4.1 with a cume of 807,700. December'10 had WEEI AM at 4.0 and 523,400 cume with WBZ FM showing 3.8 with a 734,200 cume.

WBZ FM had hundreds of thousands more casual listeners than WEEI AM but 850 took the prize because their audience were all P1s. Beating the other guy is the point in radio. The number 2 guy doesn't get the girl.

If there aren't enough Mets fans in Vermont to matter, no station will bother with them. If there is enough of a demand, then I'm sure that some station in the area will contact the team and work out an affiliation deal (or however these things work).

AFAIK, there is nothing in the MLB rules preventing a team from affiliating with a station in any part of the country. IIRC, there is a Yankee affiliate in the Tampa area, so even if there is a local team, it's OK.

Looks like it's a done deal with the Mets going to WOR. I don't know how their signal is in Vermont, but at least per RadioLocator, it looks like there is a bit of a null in their direction.

I don't know if you are trying to play dumb or what.

His point was not in reference to rank...it was access to demographics and bodies.

Their move to FM is a net positive and works to make them more viable, and more attractive demographically.

OK! You got me! I'm dumb! Sorry!

Since everyone was discussing Burlington, VT so much....the ESPN network was on an AM for several years with no real ratings. When it moved to 101.3 FM it grew and is now #2 men 25-54 in the market.

The Mets used to be on 960 out of Plattsburgh NY I believe--and a station in Montpelier (WSKI? WSNO?) area had the Expos.
Love going up to Vermont, and can mention former Sox affiliate WJOY 1230 used to have Bob Lobel and also Blue Jays broadcaster
the late Tom Cheek.

Not a great nighttime signal here in central Connecticut, either, at least compared to WFAN and WCBS. But it's strong enough that they probably won't need to find a Connecticut affiliate.

Stunned that the Mets are staying on AM. WOR may be an even worse fit than WABC was for the Yankees -- no other sports programming and an audience with a median age of around 85.

And on whatever the station that is now known as WHOM was called in the '60s (WMTW-FM?). I remember reading that they were on that station as a favor to owner Joan Payson, who had a summer home in Maine.
