...Sue O'Neil!

Seems they're now looking for a PD to replace her at Star - get your T&R's in ASAP!

IS this in fact, true? As I understand it, Ms. O'Neil has been appointed OM of both WKSE & WTSS.

In either case, there's plenty of work to be done and an unenviable number of issues to be resolved. WKSE seems to have stabilized, although in doing so, seems to have infringed on some of Star's valuable turf.

Ordinarily, WTSS and WSKE might be able to share the wealth, but this does not seem to be the case these days, with WBUF-Jack taking what appears to be a hefty bite out of WTSS. WHTT, playing 60s, 70s and a smart smattering of 80s appears to be cause for concern as well.

I dare say a knowledgeable PD for Star appears to be in house, that being Roger Christian.

Agreed! And the more personality driven the station, the better.

Star-Kissed

Entercom has some serious thinking to do regarding Kiss & Star. Star just got battered by a left-right combo of Jack to the nose, with an uppercut from Kiss stealing serious female numbers.

Kiss has evolved into a station that threatens Star's audience more than anybody else. Janet & Co. in the morning, talking about raising kids & Desperate Housewives, are certainly more focused on 30-40 year old women than they are on 20-30 year olds. Rob Lucas ain't exactly Mr. Personality. Moving Janet & Co. to Star isn't the worst idea I've heard, but then you have to revamp Kiss, and hope the audience moves with them.

We live in interesting times. Howard just had a very good book, but leaves the building in the middle of December. Where does that audience go? Norton? Shredd & Ragan? Janet & Co.? Satellite? More Music Jack?

I'm betting that Star goes all Christmas much earlier than anticipated - like maybe Nov. 14th - and beats WJYE to the punch. That gives them about 7 weeks to figure out how to differentiate Kiss & Star, and make any changes necessary. Let's see who's programming each of the Entercom properties Dec. 1st, and that may give us a hint.

Of course, by then Dave Universal may have WILD sweeping the Buffalo market by storm, making all other radio stations irrelevant...

Roger Christian would sound really funny doing CHR/Rhythmic?

Seriously, sounds like too big a jump to me.

No it isn't true. The R&R article says they are still searching for a PD at WKSE, and that PD will report directly to Ms. O'Neill.

Here's the R&R atricle:

Sue O'Neil Shifts To WKSE PD Post

O'Neil has been OM/PD for Entercom Hot AC WTSS (Star 102.5)/Buffalo, and she's now moved over to CHR/Pop clustermate WKSE (Kiss 98.5). She succeeds Jimmy Steele, who exited Kiss several months ago. O'Neil programmed WKSE from 1995-2000 before moving across the hall to oversee Star 102.5's transition from WMJQ. Her replacement is now being sought at WTSS.

Do you really take my every statement seriously? I'll have to keep that in mind next time I'm tempted to be a smart-ass.

I thought maybe the subject line Flip Answer might have given you a clue:

flip: impudent, marked by casual disrespect; "a flip answer to serious question"; "the student was kept in for impudent behavior"

Re: Flip Answer

Oh dear Lord Rox, I forget that only your statements on this board are important....Roger Christian would sound great on a blazin hip hop station, your a (forget it)..

Majic, I was being flip (impudent, smart-mouthed, kidding) when I made the comment about Roger Christian on a hip-hop station. It was a joke. After all, Roger has survived every OTHER format on 102.5 for the last 30 years.

Sorry that you missed the humor. And missed the humor when I SAID that it was humor.

Now, here's a serious statement: I think that flipping Star to hip-hop would alienate the existing audience, and be too big a reach for them.

Star is designed to go after 35-49 females, where WJYE is the king (queen?). Kiss is designed to go after the 25-34 females, while still grabbing most of the 18-24 females. We now have a problem where Kiss is getting more 35-44 females than it's supposed to, which hurts Star. So, Entercom needs to decide who goes after what, and program accordingly.

I guess guys are supposed to listen to The Edge or their iPods.
