And the award for the dumbest post...goes to CartDeck

What a crazy and ignorant post by CartDeck, which talking about the #1 radio station in the market for the past 4+ yrs. He says:

"In case you haven't noticed...The Blaze is not #1 in every demo and daypart like they were once. In fact, in some areas the've fallen to 4th or 5th in the market. Yea...they are #1 12+ but that's just for bragging rights."

Cartdeck, what internet radio station do you run? No one has ever had the run of success that the Blaze is doing. Stop Hating the station, just because you don't like the music played on it. That seems to be the only explination to your post. Do you even know what an Arbitron book looks like??? Probally not!

I can't understand that statement-To all of my TRUE radio people, each one of you would give up their "left one" for a book like the Blaze's. I know one thing-It was history WE made on that station...and the staff that is still there-THEY are continuing to write radio ratings history. I am still proud of them as they continue the ASS kicking they are giving everyone else.

Explain it CartDeck...I would LOVE to hear this

Jay Rio

I'm not knocking the success the Blaze has had. It has been a very successful station since day one. You and the other Blaze staffers should be proud of the hard work you put into that station.

I'm simply pointing out that the Blaze is not # 1 in every demo as they once were. The first 2 1/2 to 3 years after the Blaze came on the air they were #1 EVERYWHERE. You couldn't look at a daypart or demographic that they were not #1 in. In the past year to year and 1/2 they have been giving up some numbers. They are not #1 across the board as they once were. Mornings is one example and it's either mid-days or afternoons (I can't remember which one right now) for another example.

I know you are out of the market now Mr. Rio, so have YOU actually looked at a book since you left and seen the numbers for yourself? Or are you just going by what your old partners at the Blaze are telling you?

Again, let me re-imphasize that I'm not knocking the Blaze. You guys deserve all the props for coming in and shaking up this market. The Blaze is still a strong station and I'm not saying it's not, but they have proved to be vunerable in some areas...and you can't argue with that.

Intriguing comment concerning the "history" that "we" (quotes to indicate your words) made at the Blaze. So much for yesterday. What are you doing to make history (or at least a bit of progress) today. Yesterday's ratings are just that--history, and worth as much for today as a week old bowl of oatmeal.

To info you of my current position:

When I left Tyler/Longview, I worked in North Carolina with Clear Channel. After a year and a half, I got a job with Radio One at WHHH, Hot 96-3, Indianapolis. I am doing well in afternoons and I know you would want to know, I am number 1# in the 18-34 demo for the past three books since I have been here. We had our best best book lately and we are number 2# behind the legendary WFMS.

How's YOUR bowl of OATMEAL?

Rio

PS: My time in East Texas was a blast-that I still miss to this day.

Well, Mr. Interlocutor (in your case, a guy who goes market to market flapping his gums about how great he thinks he is), you do seem to be a legend in your own mind. And look closely, East Texas radio didn't fold when you left. Someone let the air out of your "history."

Hey Nuzguy...You sound like that little kid that would lose at everything and then when the boys would bust your chops you would come with that weak comeback.."Yea you got me today...but just wait til tomorrow!"...then tomorrow comes and you get busted up again! Look I got "Nuz" for you! "Ratings" last a little longer than some old oatmeal reference!...especially in a 2 book market! Sales can sell these #'s or as you call it "history" for 6 months! Sure that book is gone and The Blaze will continue to set East Texas on Fire! So don't worry about what The Blaze is doing tomorrow...cause they have obviously proven that they DON"T look back...you can't be #1 for 5 1/2 yrs. if you keep looking back! What is your station about a 2 share? and one more thing...I'm sure your boss would be proud of you...you have bought into that whole "We'll get 'em tomorrow attitude"!

I believe nuzguy was referrring to the PAST performance for the Blaze not its more current situation, nor your personal current situation. Old oatmeal by the way is good for some dogs to lower their fat.

I am sure ol' Dru is having a laugh at this thread.

I imagine you go to Home Depot a lot for tools to widen that door so your ego can slide through.
"The Blaze will continue to set East texas on fire"
If that is an attempt at creativity, then I hate to burst your bubble but the phrase has been used for many years, and The Blaze wasn't the first.
"Sales can sell
> these #'s or as you call it "history" for 6 months!"

Times up and the last grain of sand is leaving the hour glass.

The Blaze will succeed for the remainder of the year,no doubt, but you can only go so far on an old track. Cracks are forming, then fissures form, then the collapse begins. Enjoy.

Re: and as for the most disrespectul posts...

At this point you've posted three times and each time it could be characterized as an attack on other posters.

In one case you not only posted actual rating numbers (not allowed here, check the rules) but you also posted the breakdowns by daypart, which are only available to Arbitron subscribers.

There's no doubt that the Blaze has had an amazing run so far, but you, like Jay Rio, could use some manners and a little modesty. Save the "act" for when you're on the air.

Just to clear up something........

"Well, Mr. Interlocutor (in your case, a guy who goes market to market flapping his gums about how great he thinks he is), you do seem to be a legend in your own mind. And look closely, East Texas radio didn't fold when you left. Someone let the air out of your "history."

It wasn't my intention to "flapping my gums about how great...". I am in this business to win. That's it. My rating success has been very fortunate, and The Blaze has had (and continues) to have a very successful run. "The oatmeal" reference to the History that The Blaze is currently still being re-writen.

I never said anything about the market "folding up", I am still proud to say we kicked EVERYONE's ass when I was there. Are you believing that I think I am a legend? I never said that word "Legend", but if that what you think I am...ok! As for everyone else who thinks the Blaze is down to it's last few grain of sand...

"Times up and the last grain of sand is leaving the hour
> glass. The Blaze will succeed for the remainder of the year,no
> doubt, but you can only go so far on an old track."

I know you "RADIO ARM CHAIR PD's" are praying each and every night that The Blaze would go away - so your fledgeling radio station would maybe crack the Top 5.

I haven't heard ONE WORD about the Talent at this station, I have been here checking out what's being said of my friends since I left and all of you seem to think "it's lucky" or "they're (the Blaze) time is coming up".

All of you are acting like little kids that wished something happened to the big bully, so you can keep your lunch money!"

KBLZ-KAZE deserves respect-This is THEIR time. As for me, I am a product of good people working together and I was fortunate to move on to a bigger market. Something you would not know anything about!!

Rio

No disrespect to anyone that works in East Texas, it is a great market and I wish you have great success. All I am saying is-Respect the #1 station, we respected everyone when we entered the market-they still do.

Really? Cracks forming? The only crack forming are your takes! Sorry if I've rubbed some of you the wrong way! Maybe I should go to time out! "The Blaze on Fire" reference wasn't an attempt at breaking some creative barrier...but thanks for setting me straight! But to say "Times up and the last grain of sand is leaving the hour glass"...who are you Nostradomis? Or are YOU the one that's going to dethrone The Blaze?! How many times has someone said that!? If I had a dollar for everyone that doubts, hates or downgrades The Blaze I could retire (you would like that huh?) Look...I love your confidence, so let's see where The Blaze is a year from today! If someone decides to go heads up!...Bring it on, beleive me...The Blaze would welcome the competition! And by the way, we ALL have egos in this business or we wouldn't be in it!

I appreciate your sense of humor. As far as Market comparision goes, try working in the top ten, then we'll talk some more on that subject.

I find it interesting you posted twice, using your two names in rebutal to my last post. I must have hit a sensitive spot, and close to reality on the subject.
As pointed out you can not post arbitron figures. Try reading the rules. In the years I have been in this business, I have seen many like you, get irritated fast, boast about themselves, had short term impressive numbers and soon crash in one fell swoop. It won't happen this year, so stay calm. Next year be cautious.

First of all that is two different people responding to you genius...not one using two names! Thanks for smacking me on the hand again about the arbitron #'s...my bad! I guess I can't read! Thank God for radio! I usually don't respond to you gossipers on this board but it has been so intriguing lately that I can't resist! So, you grizzled veteran..tell me about your years in the business and the Top 10 markets you've worked!? I've been in radio 14 years...10 of those in a Top 10 market! How long have you spent in the Top 10? (I know the next smart thing out your mouth before you even say it...) You probably want to know what got me out of the BIG market and here to East Tx...OPPORTUNITY and more MONEY!! Now I know Rio and myself have been taking some heat here (not a Blaze reference so relax) about having an ego or being "full" of ourselves or whatever...Just know that everyone at The Blaze is very humble and they don't take the #'s or audience for granted...hell, if they were cocky...they would constantly be running "Arbitron rated #1" sweepers like Mix is with Kid Kraddick and how KOOI does ALL the time! You haven't heard that from The Blaze...EVER! They just go about their business and win! Thanks for the heads up on a new station...The Blaze would welcome competition...it's getting kind of boring!

I am not irriated not at all...I am laughing at you and your "gossip folk"
and how incredibly ignorant your thoughts are. You know using that name EdwardRMorrow (the famous news man) why don't you take a page from his book and do some research before you speak. If you don't know, don't assume. This started out to be a post about The Blaze/never about me.

Stop making it about me. As for the Arbitron figures-who cares.
We all know The Blaze is handing everyone their asses on a plate and it going to be like that for a while.

To quote Jerry Russell in 2000 - "The Blaze won't make it past this year"
Where's Jerry at now???

Plus understand this...Rusty Reynolds actually has "your back".
in 2000 he started up the Blaze with the Best people from a Top 10 market
and put LIVE jocks on the air. He is actually hiring people-not tape machines-not VT machines.

Of all of the dissertation that has surrounded Reezy and his past association with the Blaze, I say that some of us on this board need to really appreciate the work the Blaze has done for East Texas and will continue doing so in the future. I give it to them because not only that they are number one, they are legends. Like KZEY before them (before Russell messed up the R&B legacy of it), Reynolds made a greater impact on giving East Texas listeners what they want. Some of you are forgetting that Reynolds made KZEY the station to listen to during the 70s and 80s. In the 21st century, and almost 5 years running, The Blaze repeated that success. I've been around East Texas radio for 18 years and I would not mind coming back to work at the other stations (minus the Clear Channel chain) that would avail me to come. Even if it's the Blaze!

Let's all be realistic. In spite of so-called lost numbers within the five years, KBLZ/KAZE scored during the Arbitrons. What does that tell you? They're still on top, no matter what you see of it.

Now we must see of the arrival of V99.3. This will repeat the success of the Blaze, however, it will be catered to the 25-49 crowd. As I've been saying in previous posts, if they go rhythmic AC, go for it. If they want the station to stick with the authenticness of urban AC, let 'er rip. True we'll give it time to gel. But you would be surprised about what I said here would come true. Then you'll be wondering, "Wow, this brotha is speaking the truth!"

So let's put down the flames of hate. Kiss and make up, PLEASE! We must get along here!

And by the way, dig deeper on your facts. Everything else is just hear-say. :)
______________
Note to MRS Ventures: Have you checked your transmitter lately? It's leaking dead air!

2 different people and your posts are closely timed together..Hmmmmmm. Uhuh.
I have worked in4 top ten markets( presently I still am,) Thanks for asking.

If the Blaze is a station full of down to earth people as you claim, then they should be very successful. ce'st la vie

I stiil appreicate your sense of humor. I worked In Houston as well ( KRBE,KILT,KKBQ naming a few in your market during my 33 years of experience.). I have done my research thank you for your concern. Jerry Russell? He would be better off forecasting when the sun would rise and set. It's not about you, just the attitude you portrayed. Enjoy, the blood pressure.
