And The Burn-Outs Just Keep On Comin'

I Shot The Sheriff

The Unwashed Masses can and never will get enough of what the Industry decides to make "common" for "them"..... They buy the fat and sugar that the Multi-National Corps. distribute, and pay to advertise for....

There's always been a "bottom".... but the landscape is beginning to look like "all" bottom.... but now.... with "every" genre represented.....

And that's your Govt's. idea of "equal" representation.

Thanks, but NO THANKS !

Roll Back the 1996 Act, that's CHANGE I can USE !!!

In addition to radio, also burning out as a favorite in soundtracks and commercials for each year's "feel good movie of the summer":

Katrina and the Waves, "Walking on Sunshine"

Radknowski, I am truly honored you took my suggestion and ran with it--and with 41 replies and 575 views at the time of this posting, it appears this Pre-Beer-Buzz thread does indeed have legs. The only thing lacking are those damn emoticoms (wasn't Don supposed to fix that problem? Get him on the phone!)

From the Crispy Critter category, I submit:

Whitney Houston - "I Wanna Dance With Somebody" (that comes from trying to maintain artist separation when all her tunes were current/recurrents)

Supremes "Where Did Our Love Go?"

Okay. We're comin' out of the record. Play the record. PLEASE.

(Baby, baby...where did our TSL go??)

Manic Monday, BANGles. Bad, Bad, Bad, Bad, Hook....Miami Snooze Machine.

Borderline - "the title that tells it all" - Madonna.

Fickle almost lost its preset in the car* when it computo-played "Seasons In The Sun" by Terry Jacks. My wife and I nearly collided reaching for the tuning knob.

This does remind me of a running gag that Z100 in New York did some years ago, called the "Jukebox from H---" (H E double toothpicks) with nominations from listeners. "Seasons In The Sun" was one of the first platters in said jukebox. I have a feeling that every song that was on there will wind up on here. The crowning achievement was when someone called in and remarked, "how could you not already have Wayne Newton's 'Daddy Don't You Walk So Fast'?"

*Except, what would I change it to?

Guaranteed-every-time dashboard knuckle-rapper (as in lunging for the presets or "tuning knob" for those of us still listening on the Mopar Transitone....)

AFTERNOON DELIGHT, Starland Tuneout Band

How about Big Yellow Taxi by Joni Mitchell?

That ain't as bad as the Counting Crows version...

It seems like there's a difference between Buffalo posters and Rochester posters. There are some songs that don't seem as crispy in Buffalo because we've been deprived of an oldies/classic hits station until recently.

Or, maybe it's just me...

How about holiday smokers.....Anybody remember Becky Lamb – Little Becky's Christmas Wish or Pvt Charles Bowens - Cheistmas in Vietnam and yes I played them both....I feel so dirty

This holiday tune is definitely cringe-worthy:

Elmo & Patsy "Grandma Got Run Over by a Reindeer"

"I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus" by Jimmy Boyd (who died this year on March 7.)

Surprised no one's mentioned "Morning Train" by Sheena Easton yet :D

Holiday burn-outs? I'd go with "The Christmas Song" by who ever sings it or covers it. You know "chestnuts roasting on an open fire..." blah.

That one depends on who sings it. It still works when you hear a recording by the guy who wrote it, Mel Torme, or the one guy who sang it even better than Mel, Nat King Cole. Trouble is, you never hear either of those performances on the air much anymore, even in post-Thanksgiving holiday rotation.

I agree, and it applies to all songs. Bette Midler's "Wind Beneath My Wings" is a song approaching--if not already achieiving--burnout status. Yet the version I prefer (and carry-over from the "stiffs" thread) is Lou Rawls' which was released with the title "Hero" -- and nobody plays it.

The more you think about it, haven't all the singles which were pulled from Fleetwood Mac's 1977 "Rumours" album--Dreams, Don't Stop, Go Your Own Way, You Make Lovin' Fun--pretty much gone to charcoal by now?

I am buzzed on what must be 3.99 Genny purchased by one of the undiscerning rookies in the crew as compensation for having half a ceiling of plaster and lath fall on my coconut earlier today, so pardon the typos if any. It looks like almost all of the burnouts so far, with a few exceptions, fall into the AC category. I can';t believe you guys listen to that much AC radio. The Christmas songs are interesting because sooner or later, one of the chick stations is going to flip to All Christmas. I hate Madonna's version fo Santa Baby, prefering the original by Cat Woman, Eartha Kitt... Mee-yow! Last year, I think I heard a version of the song by Taylor Swift. WTH? Where's Kanye West when you really need him? Bah, hum-friggin-bug! Anyway, while listening to 97 Rock a few days ago, I heard some crispy Lynyrd Skynyrd song and flipped to Q-107... and less than an hour later, I heard another Skynyrd song, although it wasn't the same song 07 Rock played. Skynyrd has such a big catalog and is such a cool Southern Rock band, you wonfer why stations seem to play the same five songs. Genny beer should go back to the old label, BTW. The old label is better than what's in the can.

Agreed on the Madonna "Santa Baby" routine. All crass, no class. Another Christmas burnout is Run Run Rudolph, by Chuck Berry.

The two biggest holiday burnouts are Feliz Navidad by Jose Feliciano and Merry Christmas Darling by the Carpenters.

I agree except about the song "Dreams". While we're speaking of Fleetwood Mac, add Rhiannon to the list of Burn-Outs.

I prefer Gary Morris' version myself haha :D
