Actually since "Ugly Betty" was raised a really good soundtrack is done for "Life On Mars" which concludes this week. Mott The Hoople, Velvet Underground, Bowie (of course since the title comes from him) just some great stuff from about 1973.

I can still remember Sandy Beach playing it almost every day for a week in the 4PM hour on 'KB...
"Who Was It"
(actually, it was a obscure hit for Cliff Richard too)...I think I'm the only person who has both versions!
Let's keep it in the 73 era...
How about Gilbert O'Sullivan's minor hit parade:
Clair
Ooh Baby
Out of the Question
Get Down
Another Barry Gordy secret - add some scrap tire slag to the pressings (only available in the Detroit area)Those Motown 45s were pretty resistant to cue-burn.
Now - that's what we're talkin bout!! Fun radio from "the day". (Actually Monsignor Savage is digressing back to show everyone how it's done) BUT, that was how it was done!!! I know I didn't write that liner card for him!! Few today can place the image of Sir Savage cracking the mic, grabbing the appropriate fade level, jumping in with the somewhat modified pipes, and rendering this same intro while precisely hitting the post (specific tune not required). I love it!! (He's waiting for the day- which brings up Zager & Evans "In The Year 2525", 1969)With siren screaming and light bar flashing wildly, allow me to jump into the breach to save this utterly unstoppable thread from the TIO Purgatory with an apolitical forehead-smacker from the winter of 1967-68:

Jim: you need to get employed -QUICK!
And Silkie, if you really want to hear some strange sounds, sample the entire album of Hurricane Smith. Most of the songs sound like they were from the roaring 20's. A very hanuting tune, "Auntie Vi's" makes you scratch your head and wonder if this guy was really involved in some of the Beatles recording sessions. Then there's an instrumental which would be very appropriate in a silent movie (I think that was the name of the song)!
